The “ SCORPIONS ” from the “ HILLS ” , tremendous “ DUNK ” with “ SWEET ” pains

The “ SCORPIONS ” from the “ HILLS ” , tremendous “ DUNK ”  with “ SWEET ” pains.
Deepa Karmakar  when she had FINALLY made the Indians and this country India to realize that inspite of the TREMENDOUS hardship and without any basic facilities that exists at the N E Region , the people of that region means- BUSINESS when it boils down to SPORTS as a business , and for them that is  that.
The region of North East is basically the region of the hills, hillocks and mountain. Planes are a rare variety. The distance between the places from one end to the other might not be or maybe negligible or maybe too much for one to travel but the modes and the means are very limited to travel. Distance travels are very tedious by nature.
The sports facilities too are scants and those are to  say – NEGLIGIBLE. Everything for a human being over there to bear and  to come up in LIFE  is like a “ DEATH RIDING A HORSE ”. The life is very tough .School , Colleges and Universities are so mean and so less in numbers that a hilly chap has to go to distance place very far off from his native to complete his education. The facilities available are so very scant and meager that it becomes very hard- VERY VERY VERY hard for a bright prospect to correctly hit the mark.
The provision of instant communication, and the source of informations are so scanty and are accessible to those only who hold the sway. In the absence of this the people find it very hard to dwell and prosper to come up correctly at the right time in a right manner. There are no facilities of sports and recreation though sports is the way and mean of recreation at the hills inspite of absolute mean facility available for the same.
Inspite of the things and the means- the HILLS have provided to this country certain glorious outstanding sportsmen and women. The first amongst them is Taleram Aao, the Captain of the Indian football team of the 1948 Olympics. He hailed form a place at Nagaland. He played for Mohun Bagan and he completed his studies of M B B S from Kolkatta.Once he did it he gave away playing football- moved to his place and served the Nagaland Government with class and dignity.

He played the game when India would play BAREFETT and inspite of that the Indian team under him gave a terrific display of scintillating soccer filled with class and ARTS in the Olympics.
The last footballer from Nagaland to don the Indian colours was Akum who played in the Jawaharlal Nehru Cup in 1985. He had scored a goal against Hungary in that match. Narendra Gurung was one of the footballer from Manipur who really showed what a TORPEDO can be in football when it came to playing TORPEDO football. He was from Manipur.
The list remains completely INCOMPLETE without mentioining the TWO names, SHYAM THAPA and BAICHUNG BHUTIA.

Hockey : Manipur Throws The Surprise
If football can open up the and  with pride for the Hills, how can Hockey be left behind. From 1979 to 1988 for about 10 years the Hills provided excellent Hockey players to India and Manipur took the centre stage or as ONE can call it THE PRIDE OF THE PLACE.The bombshell was the Junior National Hockey Championship in 1980 where Manipur finished as the runners-up. It threw three players, Neel Kamal Singh, Thoiba Singh and L Tikken Singh. All these three players were signed by the Indian Airlines. However Thoiba left the Indian Airlines to join Food Corporation of India as he was awarded a post of Assistant Manager in 1991.
Neel Kamal Singh became the FIRST ever OLYMPIAN HOCKEY PLAYER from Manipur and from the Hills. He represented India in the 1984 Olympics and played against West-Germany, a match which saw India playing a 0-0 draw against Germany. Thereafter L Tikken Singh,Thoiba Singh, Kulddep Meetei and a host of other Manipurians played for India in the various games held internationally in hockey
Boxing : The “ PUNCH ” of Death
Boxing was the other one in which the HILLS produced outstanding sportsperson and the FIRST ever pair of the boxer to win the medal from the Hills and from the NE was Til Bahadur Bura. A Nepali but settled at Manipur , he won the Silver Medal for India in the 1974 Asian Games held at Tehran. Thereafter it was the S K Rai and the M K Rai  the brothers from Assam who represented India in the Asian Games Boxing held at various venues from 1973 to about 1977.
Crowning Glory : Zoramthanga Wins The First Ever World Boxing Championship Medal
Pic : Zoramthanga
The CROWNING glory was the 1990 WORLD CUP BOXING CHAMPONSHIP when Zoranthangam won the BRONZE medal for India. Zoramthangha was from Nagaland, the place of where Taleram Aao and Akum came from. It, rpt, IT WAS THE FIRST MEDAL IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CATEGORY FOR INDIA THAT WAS WON BY ZORAMTHANGA. For his performance he was awarded a LIFE TIME ARJUNA by the Vajapayee Government under the Sports Ministership of Ms Uma Bharati.
This LIFE TIME award should once again be started and the award conferred to the players who were purposely denied. The quickly they do that the better would be it for the sportsmanand sportswoman who were DENIED that honour.
When it boils to boxing no body can finish without writing about Mary Kom, L Sarita Devi, and Shiva Thapa and ofcourse Devendro Singh. The less I write about them- the better.

The HILLS have also produced brilliant archers and there have been many from Assam, Manipur and the likes of the seven sisters where the archers have won so many an international medals for India.
The Women’s weightlifting team too have many and had many a weightlifters from Manipur.
All in all- in spite of the poor facilities that exists in the HILLS and in spite of the Governments apathy- the people of the states in the hills have shown exemplary HEART to carve a glorious name for themselves in the history of Indian sports and now there is a REQUEST to the Modi Government- Sir, please enhance the facilities of the Hills. Make them SMART HILLS like the SMART CITIES.Talents and recognition as well as accolades will flow in plenty
The people and the talents have the HEART- they lack in facilities and the sportsperson from the HILLS are the future of this country. The BELLBOTS and the ones are a SHOWOFF, the local attires CLADDED with their HATS on the HEADS are the- HATSOFF. That India needs to understand quickly.
Hon’ble Prime Minister- it is your GOVERNMENT to understand it fast and take an action
