Protection of Forest and Wild Life

Forest are nation’s wealth. These are useful to human being and the other beings in many a ways.  Many things which starts from woods and runs upto shrubs, herbs, wood which serves as a fuel , medicinal herbs etc are obtained from forest.

The National policy Of Forest-::  Broadly speaking forest ought to cover 33% ie one-third of the entire land and this is also the national policy.

The welfare of the forest and the forest of India ought to connected and it is connected with the soil, water and wild life. The tropical forest covers a wide range of flora and faunas and we here in India have THREE kind of forest-:

1). Coniferous Forest of the Himalayas

2). Deciduos Forest of the Vindhyas

3).  The tropical evergreen forest of the Western ghat.

These forest that I have described here are our natural resources for economic development. Tuber and fibre as well as the fire wood meets the need for the domestic and the other such as plywood which are also obtained from the forest meets both the national and the international need .  The foreign exchange in large and also in small measures are obtained from the forest.

Animal hides, teak , Lac, ivory and sandalwood are obtained from the forest.

Essentialities-::

All that we need and all that is essential is to protect our forest.

Rich forest  are being destroyed all over the country, and those are done indiscriminately.  With mass tree falling thin layers of humus will be washed.There ought to be soil erosion. The loss is said to be permanent. It robs the strength of their means of existence. Indiscriminate and illegle destruction of the forest continues unabated despite legislative and administrative measures . India is passing through a phase of civilization dominating forest where in civilization dominating forest to the point of destroying them and consequently destroying itself in the process.

Notified Area Of Forest In India

India has a area of 750 lakhs hectares notified as forest. But forest area under good three covers and it’s cover is estimated to be only half of the area legally treated as forest.

There are many reason why the forest area is shrinking low and down and one of the reason is the chopping off the trees,  and the deforestation by allowing the contractors to cut the trees. Further losses are to the beings, the wild animals and the one’s which ar wild but which lives on the herbs in the forest  .We also see the disappearance of the Tigers, the Lions, the Leopards, the elephants, and the wild birds to name a few.

The Concerns Of The Forest-::

Forest are also concerned with the control of the pest and cvertain forest produces like the Lacs, the leaves etc which are used as medicines.

The control of the pestand fire,  protection of the watershed, proper use of land by large game and cattle and the successive problems. These forest are to be better managed so that they provide good environment and a good atmosphere free from the air pollution . Forest are usually cut for the best advantage of the present and future yields. In the forest the mature , diseased or over crowded trees are removed.

There are many methods that ought to be discovered and that ought to be found out  for not only saving the forest but also to put it in the forefront of the national plolicies and also to obtain a higher returns from the forst so as to make it contribute to the national wealth and economy ie, the GDP. This principle ought to be framed as the FOREST STEWARDHIP.

Pic :: Forest Stewardship

How could the forest be saved and served as the leader to present itself as the most contributing element of the national wealth and it’s GDP is something which opens up an avenue what we would like to call it a STEWARDSHIP by the FOREST

Can the forest be saved by the elements of the Forest itself. To cite an example  WILL THE PLANTATION OF THE TEAK TREE BE ENOUGH TO SAVE MANY OTHER SMALL AND MEDIUM TREES THAT ARE GROWN IN THE FOREST. This are some of the question that crops up.This is a area which needs application and it serves as a food for thought.

Pic :: Harvesting Timber For the Forest Protection

 There must be a selection in cutting which allows a continual natural reforestation. Such a forest would have trees of nearly all the ages.  However it is distressibg to note that, destruction in the name of the development still exists. To cite an example the large Amazon forest are facing a loss of 2000 square kilometres a year.

Protection From Fire-::  This is the major problems of the forest. The forest fire annulally consumes terrifying amount of our forests. Due to fire, in addition to the loss of the timber , fire also means destruction on the surface and the litters of the soil. The consequent loss of protection of the top from the soil that arises from the erosion. The loss of wild life in large due to the fire may be because of the fact that at times the forest are purposely set on fire to create a LITTERS on the soil and when the fire engulfs the forest is damaged which is irrevocable.

In some of the area where the Tribes reside ,  the Tribal people burn the forst for agriculture purpose and use.  These activities ought to be prevented. Of late the mechanization of the forest fighting equipment has greatly increased and it had and has manifolded the ability of the man to cope up with the same.

There are always the reason for the insect to harm and damage the forest.It damages the wood, the leaves, the roots of the trees etc and these damages  are the mainreason for which the forest suffers.

 An insect harms the trees from a variety of ways- from defoliation which weakens the tree, to desytruction of the fruits or seeds which prevents the reproduction.

Grasy area in the forested regions provides food for livestock and are important in the local economy, but the overgrazing and browsing can be detrimental to the forest young seedlings which ould be damaged and the conditions for the soil erosion may be established. Overgrazing is posing a major threat to the sanctuary environment. Notified area should be closd for grazing or else the number of grazing livestock should be fixed according to the carrying capacity.

Reason For Destruction Of Forest-:

Forest are occasionally destroyed for the following reason-:

1). Construction of huge reservoirs, and the dams,

2).Digging of the mines

3).Oil Drilling in the dense forest

4).Agriculture Land and Cultivation

5). Housing

Environment can only be saved if such activiteies are restricted.The public should also co-operate in environmental protection. The social forestry should also be maintained and adopted. This benefits the poor especially the women’s who walk miles in search of the food , fuel,  and the wood.

Pic :: Forest Destruction

By destroying the forest and it’s environment the entire social and ecological environment is getting harmed and disturbed. Forest comes under the category of renewable sources. They can be conserved if protected from the fire and non-judicial cutting. Antisocial elements indulge in destroying flora and the fauna for their personal gain. They should be caught and should be punished. Afforestation is also very harmful at times and at times it is benefical but in the long run it is useful and very beneficial.

Cutting off the trees should be banned. By enforcing the protection law more strictly, disaalowing hunting and trade in them and making a long term struggles to help them we can save the endangered species of the plants as well as the animals. Poisonous chemicals and metals like mercury , arsenic and insecticides should be used only with the permission of the Government.

By social forestry we could see that the trees purify the atmosphere and supply  us the tuber, fuel, green manure and fodders. Wild life could be and can be preserved and conserved if they are  given a natural environment .Poaching and the trade in wild life products must also be banned.

In India both the Central and the State Governments’ are taking steps to conserve the forest and the wild life but it ought to be done in a grand and a vast manner as well as measuer.However nothing is possible without the co-operation of the public in large.

The public should be educated in large about the forest, it’s preservation, protection and the importance of the trees and the wild life.

 That is it
