Lata Mangeshkar :: Endorsed – All " DOUBTS " And The “ AUTHORITY ” stops here

Lata Mangeshkar :: Endorsed – The “ AUTHORITY ”  stops here

Today happens to be the 91st birthday of the NIGHTINGLE of India , Madam Lata  Mangeshkar.

She today has stepped into the first step of her 92nd ladder of her life. Not a easy  way to accomplish this feat in her life which was full of challenges, struggle but also was full with  accomplishment which was never a mean which could be described so easily .

Pic :: A Eight Years Of Age Madam Lata Mangeshkar

Some fourty five years ago  she had appeared for an interview on the programme which was so popular during those days and the name of the programme was “ S.KUMAR’S KA FILMI  MUQADAMA ” .That programme  use to be  compered by Mr Ameen Sayani  and in that programme that she reveled about the BEST FIVE SONGS  that she sang is all that I describe and write today.

A ).  Lag Jaa Galay Kay Phir Kabhie Yeh Raat Hoh Naa Hoh

This song is from the film “ WHO KAUN THI.

She never RANKED any of the song that could be the BEST and in the order of merit from the FIRST position that she could  rank it to the fifth, but the songs  on that programme that she spoke about the best five that she liked it is what I describe it over here

I may start with a song that I would describe first but that is NOT the ranking that I give or that GREAT Lady had given .It is all about the FIVE songs that she spoke about and I write it over here.

The REAL pointer of this film is that the famous VILLIAN, Prem Chopra who till was a Assistant editor at the Office of the  “ TIMES OF INDIA ” , then was given a break in this film for the first time in  his life and this film was the one in which he made his film debut.

The Song was picturised on Madam, the Late Sadhana and Mr Manoj Kumar who was the lead actor in this film. The film was a BLACK-AND-A-WHITE movie. The music was rendered by Mr Madan Mohan who by that time had given his job in the Army. He was an Indian Army personnel, and was from Punjab. He gave away his job in the army and came to the Indian film as a Music Director. Mr Raj Khosla was the Director of this movie.

This movie was a BUMPER –BOX-OFFICE hit. This movie was a mystery thriller. The music of the song was based on The music is set in Raga Pahari. The song is an example of Dadra songs .

Latadi on that day of recording this song was down with fever. She wanted the song to be deferred by a few days but she couldn’t. The reason was there were three films whose recording was to be done immediately after the recording of this song and the three films in wait  were “ Ziddi ”, “ Sangam ” and “ Aayee Milan Ki Bela”.

Personally I have watched all these three films and the TWO, Aayee Milan Ki Bela in which Dharmendra was the SOFT-VILLIAN in that movie , and that was the FIRST film of Dharmendra who was a VILLIAN in a  movie , and Sangam were Golden Jubilee hits, and Ziddi was the Silver jubilee . Since the recording were fixed and there was no chance of any deferment to be there for consideration , by and  for any chance , Latadi went to the Siddhi Vinayak temple on the same day and she put herself to the diety the Lord Ganesh

At about 12.00PM she reached the recording studio and in a very trembling but a steady voice she sang this song and the REAST IS A HISTORY. In that programme she said very frankly that her state of the body was so bad and debilitated that she was not sure even to stand properly but her faith in herself and the GOD that she always believed in , Lord Ganesh and the blessing of the Lord and the Music Director Mr Madan Mohan just made this song a SONG-TO-REMEMBER .

These are the kind of “ SONG ” which keeps the “ HUMAN-BEING ” alive for many, many and many years.

This song in the U-Tube has  the viewers which could be very near to the  mark of 19 crores or even more than it as of today.

B ). Kya Janoon Sanam, Hoti Hai Kya, Gum Ki Shaam.

This is a song from the film “ BAHARON KAY SAPNAY ” .

This song was composed in the terms of the music by Mr R.D.Burman

To one and sundry and to the many  this song marks the LANDMARK of a NEW CONCEPT introduced in the domain of the music in particular. R.D.Burman very INTELLIGENTLY introduced and presented to the WORLD of MUSIC, the mixing and the overlapping before it was  actually established with better instrument.

This song was based on the RAGA- “ RAAG PAATDIP ”

There is a story that is related with this song. In that movie ( I saw it ONCE in 1972 when I was at Pathakhera Coal Mines )  there is a scene where Rajesh Khanna the hero of the movie purchases some groundnut from a thellawalla. He has to give some to  Asha Parekh  in the scene and he has to eat some. The brilliancy if at all in that scene was such that ONE small piece of the groundnut which Rajesh Khanna has to eat  after peeling the skin of the groundnut, would fall on the ground .  That fallen piece ought to be picked up by Rajesh Khanna and he has to wipe it and then eat that. That was the way to describe the PENURY and the struggle that an educated boy who was trying to find a job but could not  get it because of many nepotism and partialism as that was depicted in the movie, and as a hero he  was facing that the world was throwing him as a challenge in the movie scene.

U-Tube : Song :: Kya Jannon Sanam , Hoti Hai Kya Gum Ki Shaam

Rajesh Khanna did accordingly  and acted likewise in the shot to pass off beautifully for the scene and the shot,  but after that he caught a terrific stomach disorder. Now he was required to act on this song as this song was posturized on both, Asha Parekh and Rajesh Khanna .. It was essential for Rajesh Khanna to shoot on the same day when the shooting schedule was affixed but with his stomach in such a bad manner he felt he would not be able to do that.

It was the ASTHVINAYAK again, ie the Lord Ganesh  , his blessings,  which saved the day for the shoot to be cancelled as Madam Lata Mangeshkar who was present there after the   record for the song , came in for the recording for some other song. She was given a coconut ie the SHREEPHAL by a Marathi fellow who was there in the troupe who would render this music as a team for the song.

Luckily Madam Mangeshkar, ie Latadi did not break or do anything with it on that day. She was keen to see how Rajesh Khanna would perform in the song as he was a struggler then and as many as first five film that he acted by then were all FLOPS.

Latadi was there just to watch him act on the song as she was full of over confidence that Asha Parekh would not at all falter in the scenes and sequences because as a heroine she was a super actress by then . When Rajesh Khanna came on the set he was not in his actual form which could be guazed to say that he was fit. He had his apprehension.

Latadi moved to him and took that shreephal , ie, that coconut and just prayed to the Lord and after that she put in on Rajesh Khanna’s forehead wishing him success. After about 40 minutes Rajesh Khanna got up and said Mr Tahir Hussian the Director of the film- KARTAY HAIN.

This film was a BLACK and a WHITE movie but this was the ONLY song which was picturised in COLOUR

THE  REST IS A HISTORY

C ) . O Sajana Barkha Bahhar Aaye , Rus Ki Fuhaar Laaye, Ankhiyon Mai Pyaar Aaya

This song actually was the EXACT COPY of the song which Lata mangeshkar had sung in Bengali. In Bengali the song was as such-:

Naa Jeyo Naa,

https://youtu.be/70N1LEe4RY4

U Tube Of The Song :: Naa Jeyo Naa Rojoni Ekkhono Baaki, Aaro Kichhu Ditey Baaki

I have purposely put the Bengali version just to make it very clear that the Hindi version of the song sung by Latadi was the exact copy of the song and the rendition that she sang in Bengali.

The Hindi version of the same song is being put here by me

https://youtu.be/G_KCiPOmNEg

U Tube Of The Sone :: O Sajna, Barkhaa Bahaar Aayee, Rut Ki Fuhaar Layee

The Music was composed by Salilda ie Mr Salil Chowdury who was the “ ONE-OF-A-GEM-AND-ONLY-ONE-OF-IT’S-KIND ” of a musician who could SIMPLY be termed as the “ MOST-ORIGINAL” of his time.

He had many a doubt over his ability to compose it in Hindi after Latadi made a as one believed at that time that it would be so hard to sing that song with the rain water dripping over the wiper of the car ,  and it’s sound that emerged out of the same,  that Salilda gave for Latadi to match her voice with the effect of the sound but this MAGIC LADY made it  like say, “ GRAMINIVOROUS ” .  It was like say a LION which was visualized when Salilda composed the music both , first ,  in Bengali and then in  Hindi and when the Bengali version was to be transformed in Hindi there were the different music composer who would play the instrument that played at Calcutta then and now that they would play at Bombay.

Salilda was a bit skeptical but with  Latadi he was assured that the MAGICAL LADY would not let her down.  Totally skeptical about everything, “ PARBE TOH, LOTA he asked which means  WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO DO IT  and the reply was- “ KAAICH PARWAH NAHIN ”, Salil Bhau  which means DO NOT BOTHER SALIL BHAI.

WHAT MORE TO SAY – THIS SONG IN ONE OF THE INTERVIEW LATADI HAD CONFESSED THAT THIS WAS THE BEST EVER THAT SHE HAD SUNG AND THE FILM  “ PARAKH ”  went on to become a GOLDEN JUBILEE .

Let me again make it very clear if  I HAVE GONE WRONG SOMEWHERE DESCRIBING THE SONG AS I HAVE ALL THE  “ RIGHT ” TO CORRECT MYSELF - ::

The original version of O Sajna, done in Bengali called Na Jeona was also sung by Lata Mangeshkar, She is said to have chosen this song when asked what is the “ ONE ” song she will take with her to a desert island.

Raga Khamaj is a late evening raga and is brought out rather elegantly in the light classical form of thumri. It has been a popular choice for film music as well. The romantic nature of the raga is brought out by this delightful composition of Salil Chowdhury, O Sajna Barkha Bahar Aayi. This song is supposed to have been set to the swishing of the wipers of an Ambassador car when the composer was caught in a torrential downpour.

Once after this song was recorded and played then as once it was said by Mr Sonjoy Choudhury, the son of Salilda was :: -

After hearing O Sajana Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan Saab had called my Father Salil Chowdhury to ask him weather he knew how to play the Sitar....cuz the gaayiki in the melody was pure Sitar style ” .......Awesome to say the least

Again I say-  A ANGRY LION WHO WAS REFUSING TO EAT THE FLESH WAS MADE TO EAT THE  “ GRASS ”  AND THAT IS THE FEEL WE GOT WHEN WE HEARD THIS ONG FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR LIFE AND THAT TOO WAS IN 1966 . That is what the effect of the music composed by Salilda and the way Latadi sang it.

 AGAIN I SAY – IT WAS “ GRAMINIVOROUS “

Just imagine a “ RAZING-FIERY ” Lion very HARD to even go near it let apart taming it TAMED by somebody, not only mellowing it but winning his HEART by feeding it with GRASS. That is what Latadi DID with the song.

E ) > Aei Sama, Sama Hai Pyaar Kaa, kisi Ke Intezaar Kaa

A song which DEPICTS the “ TENDER – FEELING-OF-LOVE-THAT-HITS-A-LADY-WITH-THE-FRESH-WAVE-OF-SOFT-BREEZE ” .

Tjis actually is the CONCEPT of the scene which was picturised on Nanda the lead heroine of the film, and Shashi Kappor ascribing the FEEL of the same.

This is from the movie-  Jub Jub Phool Khilay . This movie was the FIRST which made one to feel that Shashi Kapoor definitely would make an impact on the Hindi film screen which would be different from the other two brothers that he possessed and those who had made a HEAVY impact for themselves in the Hindi films. The two brothers of Shashi Kapoor were Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor.

U Tube :: Aei sama, Sama Hai Pyaar Ka , Kisi Ke Intezaar Kaa , Dil Na Churaley Koi …..

“ RAAG YAMAN ”  is the raag ie the raga or raag (IAST: rāga; also raaga or ragam; literally "coloring, tingeing, dyeing") is a melodic framework for improvisation akin to a melodic mode in Indian classical music. ... The rāga is considered a means in Indian musical tradition to evoke certain feelings in an audience.

The music was composed by again the GREAT duo of Laxmikant Pyarelal and sung by ………  DO I AGAIN HAVE TO RENAME THE LADY…… who can INVOLE that kind of feelings……. ANY GUESS ?.. ?

Listen to the song and ENJOY the SENSOUS feeling rather than me describing it

CERTAIN  FEELINGS NEEDS TO BE FELT AND ENJOYED RATHER THAN ANYBODY DESCRIBING IT

Just feel the acts of Madam, Late Nandaji and ENJOY the song. This again is a song which puts everybody in the PARADISE .

I saw this movie for as many as THREE times but this song-:

MAYBE SAY ABOUT 500 TIMES IN THE LAST 14 YEARS , ofcourse on the U-Tube.

Every thing that I have narrated is based on the programme “ S KUMAR’S KA FILMI MUQUADAMMA ” which I heard way back on the month of December 1975

.Pic :: Latadi as we call her at the age when she was 44 after a song recording
