Summer
, Winter or a Paralympics Games :: Only " DETERMINATION " is the need of the hour
Paralympics
- :: A complete history and achievements of the Indian participation
A few days ago, the Union Ministry of India, under
the agesis of Mr Narendra Modi and his Government has declared that the
PARALYMPIC GAMES AND SPORTS would be considered as equal to the games and the
sports of Olympics in this country and that the two category of the sports
would be given the same accordance , and treated as equal in status in the annals of the games and
sports in India.
This is quite a
phenomenal status accorded to the Paralympic events of games and sports, and
this will give more impetus to the Paralympic sports in India. Many are not
coming forward in these kind of an event to participate but now that the equal
status is accorded one hopes that the Paralympic events and trhe Sports will
see a rise in the same.
This is another phenomenal achievement accorded to the one’s who are the Paralympic Sportsman
and this comes after the Confedration Of The Brazilian Football has come out
with it’s theory of paying the Brazilian male and the female footballers
representing Brazil in international football on equal footing with equal pay
and salary to the respective category.
History
of Paralympic Games and Sports that relates to India ::
I hereby present the entire history of the same and I also here
pen down the names as well as the events in which at the various games that
Indian had won the medal.
India made its Summer Paralympic début at the 1968 Games, competed again in 1972, and
then was absent until the 1984 Games. The country has participated in every
edition of the Summer Games since then. It
has never participated in the Winter Paralympic Games.
India should start thinking of participating in the Winter
Paralympic games and sports, be it the normal one that are held or be it the
Paralympic one’s as the case maybe.
India’s
“ FIRST ” Gold , water Sports makes the “ hay ” ::
In 1972 at the Heidelberg Games, Murlikant Petkar swam the 50
meter freestyle in a world record time of 37.331 seconds to give India her
first ever Gold. India finished 24th
out of the 42 participating nations.
In 1984, Joginder Singh Bedi
won silver at the Men's Shot Put and followed it up with a pair of bronze
winning performances in the Discus and Javelin throws. Another Indian, Bhimrao
Kesarkar, won the silver medal in the Javelin. India finished 37th out of the 54 participating nations.
After the success of the cooperative effort between the ICC and
the IOC, which resulted in the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul, the ICC
determined the need to expand and include representatives from all nations that
had disability sports programs.
The 1988 Summer
Paralympics were the first Paralympics in 24 years that took place in the same city as the Olympic
Games. This was the first time the term Paralympic Games came into official
use. They also deemed it necessary to include athletes in the decisions of the
Paralympic governing body. Consequently, this body was reorganized as the
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in 1989.The IPC is the global
governing body of the Paralympic Movement. It comprises 165 National Paralympic
Committees (NPC) and four disability-specific international sports federations.
2004
:: The Return Of The “ GOLDEN ” Touch Of These Games For India
India continued to participate in each Paralympic Games
thereafter, but failed to make an impact till the 2004 Summer Paralympics in
Athens when Devendra Jhajharia, Javelin thrower, won gold and Rajinder Singh
won bronze for powerlifting in the 56-kg category. India finished 53rd out of the 136 nation field. H. N. Girisha, an Indian athlete born with
a disability in the left leg, won the silver medal in the 2012 Paralympic games
held in London in the men's high jump F-42 category.
IRONY......PITY........ HELLUVA........INTERNATIONAL
JOKE-:
These games and this also has a piece of very useful and
important history attached to the same.It would make an interesting reading .
Some events are really very hard to forget and they serve as a lesson to bend
us back to place ourself to the correct path and return to the normal routes
and this has been a façade for the one’s who go as officials with the contingent abroad.
During the 2012 Summer
Paralympics it was reported that coaches and escorts of the Indian Team
were denied accommodation in the Games Village because their permits were being
used by officials of the Paralympic Committee of India. The Team's 10 athletes were to be assisted by six coaches and five escorts, but only two
escorts were given passes; Paralympic Committee general Secretary Ratan
Singh confirmed that he had brought his son, that the Committee president had
brought his wife, and the treasurer had brought his wife and daughter. This s
is something very intriguing and comical by nature and this ought to be seen and rectified by the Indian
Government in the future so that the participants are not put in jeopardy ??.
COMPARISM......
PARA ATHLETE ..... NORMALCY....... U S A
This paralympic has opened and it has raised a few eyebrows as
well.
It was in 1932 FIRST when we saw the Indian Flag was
raised and placed ahead of the U S A flag in the Olympics. That happened when
India beat U S A by 24-1 in the Hockey and Japan by 11-1 in the hockey match.
At the time of the prize distribution the India flag was raised
and placed at a higher level and height than the U S A flag however the anthem played was of British as India till
then did not have any National Antem and was a slave of the Britishers.
Thereafter there has been this occasion of the Paralympig Games
when the Indian Tri-colour was placed above the U S Flag , ie the U S National
Flag .
In between 1932 to 2016 ie, for 84 years, last, we have seen that there was NEVER any incident or
anything as such where the Indian flag was placed above the U S Flag.
The PARALYMPIANS did
it for us and that is NO MEAN an achievement .
U S A that way is AHEAD
of India in any and every thing. We cannot in our wildest dream imagine to beat
them in any Olympic events- be it anything
Milkha Singh did it at some races but not in the Olympics. On an
individual ground and feet Vijay Amritraj did it on a number of occassion when
he had scaled the height of Stan Smith, Tom Gorman, Jimmy Connors, Vitas
Gerulaitis, Roscoe Tanner , Brian Gotterfried , Bill Scanlon , and many a stars of the U S A tennis and it’s world, but never in the Olympics and
any such moment where the flag would be hoisted for or after the sports events.
This and these , achievement
of the Paralympic also has made ONE
to think that if these Para Athlete can beat the U S athlete, why can't the
normal ones even do that- yes they can do it
The second placed athlete in the High jump in that Paralympics
Game, was an American athlete and he was
beaten square and hollow by an Indian
Another intriguing fact is last time India had won a SILVER in the High Jump in the
Paralympic through a Karnataks'a based athlete named Girisha. He jumped 1.86 to
win a Silver
This time the Height ie the distance of 1.86 metres has been the Gold.
If our normal athlete become very strong MENTALLY- we can do better in the Olympics by defeating many of the
world class champions. Be it the Summer, Winter or the Paralympic Olympic Games ,
Only a determination is the need of the hour.
Thanks and Regards

Good take on a eternally neglected field. Hope this sector comes in to prominence as our nation's last hope in seeing the tricolour being raised at any of the international events- Jai Hind
