INDIAN SPORTS TAKES A NEW TURN :: Shooting “ SHOOTS” India to a New-Sky-High Dr Karni Singh - ::

They  talk a LOT abut Mr Rajyavardhan Sing Rathore. Why not ? . They should. For he is the FIRST man and the FIRST Sportsman who showed and proved and demonstrated that the SILVER LINING of India is the sports and that lies in shooting.

HE ALSO DEMONSTRATED THE SILVER LINING OF THE INDIAN DEFENSE ESPECIALLY THE INDIAN ARMY.

Army has produced many a galaxies and many a galaxy of Sportsman and Major Dhyanchand was the first one who was a GOLD MEDALLION. However in the individual event it was Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore who proved the SILVER and the lineage that it holds for the Army in Indian sports.

Thereafter immediately we had Abhinav Bindra who so far is the LONE GOLD MEDAL winner in the annals of the Indian sports and Olympics history in shooting. But he was not an Army personnel.

Shooting :: Extravaganza and the heritage of the Rajas and Maharajas.

Shooting is a very highly priced rich man sports In a poor country like India except for the Rajas and the Maharajas then nobody could ever dream of taking shooting as a sports The poor’s would take on to football and hockey as these two sports are still dubbed as poor man's sports though a very ordinary hockey pair of shoes would not cost less than Rs 3,000=00 now.

Dr Karni Singh a Maharaja from Bikaner took this sports because he could afford it . In his childhood he would go to the hunt with his father and they would kill leopards and the antelopes but that did not please him .

Since he was from the Maharajah clan and he wanted to do something new he found out about shooting as a sports and after reading its intricacies he took to trap shooting .

In 1967 in the WORLD SHOOTING COMPETITION ,  he CREATED a FLUTTER and a FURORE . Against all the expectations he won a BRONZE for India  .That set the ball rolling for shooting in India

That was the FIRST international shooting medal for India in the World competition and though it was a BRONZE it send a wave of ferocity amongst the shooting fraternity of the world .

It was because India was so poor in shooting that whenever any international shooting competition was held no invitation was send to India and the Indian shooters to  participate in them.  Here again it was the same case .

Maharaja Karni Singh spent the money from his own pocket to reach the venue and again fought a lone battle to get an wild card entry which after many a struggle he got that .

He qualified as a wild card and from then he went on to win the Bronze the first ever for India in the International shooting competition .

Deprived of any facilities thereafter

For most of the time , before and thereafter winning that Bronze medal ,  Maharaja Karni Singh did not get the facilities of practicing in the range as that was also not available at India  .The one that was at Delhi was far away from Bikaner and that too was not properly maintained

Against all the odds Maharaja Karni Singh qualified as a class shooter of India and he saw to it that shooting as sports spread all over India though the expenses were so high to play this sports .

Later on his daughter Ms Bhubaneshwari Kumari too took part in the sports as a shooter .  She also participated as an Indian international in shooting

That is how shooting spread in India and this man ought to be credited to dig a sport in the annals of Indian sports history
