U Tube :: West Germany scoring through a penalty corner in the finals of the 1972 Olympics against Pakistan
When Pakistan were BANNED for FOUR years after losing the
Olympic Munich Finals in Hockey
One would be surprised to read this and
one would NOT believe it. The TRUTH
and the fact is PAKISTAN AND IT’S
HOCKEY WAS BANNED BY THE FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY AND THE
INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION
for a PERIOD of FOUR YEARS after the finals of the 1972 Munish Olympics
when they had lost to West Germany by 0-1 , Micheal Krause scoring that goal of
a penalty corner.
History-::
Paskistan always had behaved in a very unusual manner ever
since it started tasting defeat in Hockey after winning the Olympic Gold in the
Rome Olympics beating India by 1-0.
In Rome at the finals Naseer Ahmed Bunda
had scored that elusive goal for Pakistan which fetched them their FIRST ever
Hockey Gold in the Olympics when they defeated India. Thereafter Pakistan won
the Asian games medal GOLD in 1962 at Djakarta when they defeated India by 2-0
in the finals.
India avenges defeat-:
India thereafter from 1962 to 1967 DID NOT LOSE TO PAKISTAN
FOR FIVE YEARS IN ANY HOCKEY ENCOUNTER THAT WAS PLAYED BETWEEN THESE TWO
COUNTRIES .
In 1964 a HIGH VOLTAGE match saw India
beating Pakistan by 1-0 the goal being scored by Mohinderlal who actually was
serving in the para military force. He scored off a penalty stroke . After
conceding that goal on that day Pakistan actually bombarded the Indian goal
like the American planes had bombarded the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki .
However it was the Indian Goalkeeper Shankar Laxman, WHO IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE BEST EVER HOCKEY GOALKEEPER THAT HAS
EVER BEEN BORN IN HOCKEY. He was the one who constantly warded off and thwarted many a moves and kills of the Pakistani's in that HIGH-VOLTAGE drama. It was because of him that Pakistan just couldn't score against India and India on October 22nd 1964 once again regained the Olympics Hockey Gold after losing it to Pakistan in the 1960 Olympics.
Pic - :: The " SCENT " Of The " INDIA-PAKISTAN " Hockey Finals- Tokyo 1964 Olympics
In that match Shankar Laxman had to lose
one of his TOOTH when a Pakistani hockey player hit him on the mouth deliberately
.It was Asad Mallik who did that . Thereafter again it was that MOUTH of Shankar
Laxman which took a rising flier of a penalty corner hit from Brigadier Atif, who was captaining Pakistan in that match, who had hit a penalty corner so hard but he undercut that. The ball rose
high and Shankar Laxman desperately took it on his mouth .He was bleeding but
that did not make him to leave the field because he knew that no sooner tat he
would leave the field , the Pakistani might draw level and that would be a
curse for India then.
In that game India got a penalty stroke
which Mohinderlal converted but the Pakistani behaved in an arrogant manner
with the referee before they had to take that decision allowing the Indian to
forge ahead in that match.
1966:: It Was The same act again-::
After the 1964 Finals, it was again India and Pakistan to
meet and play each other in the finals of the Bangkok Asian Games .
This again was a DING-DONG, a HIGH CLASS
of UP-AND-DOWN game in whih no teams gave any room to anybody but Pakistan were
a bit above when it came to the constructive game play and the manner whenever
they could find some space they fired from all the angles at the Indian goal
but Shankar Laxman was their answer. Laxman kept of warding and saving off the
goals that would frustrate the Pakistani.
Losing the control once again was Asad
Mallik .His act in the forward line was something which was not to be taken
lightly by anybody but the Indian kept on taking that. It went on and on lest Prithipal Singh who was
the Vice-Captain of that team ie Indian team lost his temper . He rushed to
asad Mallik and ROARED- SAALA PUNJABI HONDA MAINU. PHAAD DIITTA SEE . which
means BURGAR , I’M A PUNJABI AND I WILL TEAR YOU INTO PIECES . That SIX FOOT
PLUS a wrestler looking Punjabi and his scream send a WHISPER OF DEATH to the
entire Pakistani side. The Pakistani captain then , Brigadier Atif came to the rescue and
ordered his team to play COOL and within the law of the game. That set the
matter right.
Thereafter it was a BRILLIANT tactical
move initiated by Colonel Balbir Singh and the GOAL scored by Balbir Singh of
Indian railways which was a WORLD CLASS GOAL made all the difference. Pakistan
thereafter bombarded the Indian goal with full alarm and control and they
nagged the Indians to force them to do many a mistakes but it was Shankar
laxman who did not do any mistake and India then had WON HER FIRST
EVER GOLD IN THE ASIAN HOCKEY GAMES. The only HITCH was that Prithipal Singh
was flashed a GREEN CARD for his behavior and Asad Mallik was send out of the
field for as many as TEN minutes which also made a helluva difference for the Pakistani
team as it was Asad Mallik who was tearing into the Indian goal with his clever
moves and brilliant tactical display.
However the Pakistani as many as seven of
the eleven playing that game did not appear to be on the podium stand to receive
their medals . The reason was they could NOT accept and DIGEST that defeat on
that day inspite of playing so well against India. Had not it been Shankar
Laxman at the goal perhaps the story would have been different.
IT
MAY BE ECALLED HERE THAT THE 1966 ASIAN GAMES TEAM HAD AS MANY AS FIVE… “ BALBIR
SINGH ” PLAYING FOR INDIA IN
DIFFEERNT POSITION . The one to score in the Finals was Balbir Singh of
Northern Railways and the one from Services Colonel Balbir Singh who initiated
that move so cleverly and intelligently.
This was the FIRST of it’ kind in an
international tourney that the Pakistani side and the team behaved in an unusual manner after the finals.
Pakistan At It’s Worst In the 1972 Hockey Olympics Final
In the 1972 Olympics , Pakistan were
placed with West Germany in the group . India was placed with Holland and
Australia in the group. In the group encounter India drew with Holland with
Ashok Kumar scoring and Ties Kruize of Holland equalizing. India then beat
Australia by 3-1 in the group. India advanced into the semis topping the group
along with Holland.
Pakistan had lost to West Germany in
their group encounter with Micheal Karuse scoring through a penalty hit. In the
semis Pakistan beat India by 2-0 . India in that match received as many as 40
corners in toto both the long as well as the penalty corners but could not hit
even one in the goal.
Germany had beaten Holland to reach the
finals . In the finals Germany matched Pakistan moves after moves and the
German defense led by Michael Krause stood like a wall to thwart all the Pakistani
attack. The Germans did everything in
their book to keep Tanvir Dar at bay while he went for the penalty corner
strike.
“ TANVIR
DAR WAS THE MOST DREADFUL PENALTY CORNER SPECIALIST FROM 1962 TO 1972 IN THE
WORLD OF FIELD HOCKEY ”.
When the referee awarded that penalty
corner to West Germany the entire
Pakistani team objected to it and it took more than five minutes for the
referee to set the things right to allow the Germans to take that hit. Michael
Krause scored off that penalty corner. That again LIT the fire of PROTEST so
very vehementally by the Pakistani’s. Unnerved the referee put the fire under
douse and ordered the Pakistani’s to continue with the game.
The problem surfaced when Pakistan next
scored through an under-cutting penalty corner hit which was negated by the
referee and the fire again was set ablaze with all the Pakistani joining the
protest. One of the Pakistani was flashed with a RED CARD and the match started
after many bushes were set ablaze by the Pakistani.
It was Pakistani who were all out and all
in the attack but the West German’s took the sting out of them with Uli Vos and
Michael Karuse between them thwarting the Pakistani’s and setting the German
runs to the Pakistani goal
The Match Being Over With West Germany Winning The “ GOLD ”
When the Finals hooter was blown the
entire Pakistani team rushed to the referee and man handled him. That was the
FIRST of the WORST to follow.
Thereafter it was the PRIZE DISTRIBUTING
ceremony . The Pakistani first did not show
their intention to walk up to the podium. Anyway they were persuaded to
do that. However they DID NOT want to wear the Pakistani colours to stand at
the PODIUM, saying that the Pakistani team was cheated and robbed of the GOLD .
That also was doused off.
But the MIDAS –TOUCH-IN-REVERSE was
something that SHOOK the WORLD and TURVIED it. Individually when each of the Pakistani
players were handed their SILVER MEDAL, everybody except Akhtar Rasool ,
Ishlauddin and Munnawar –Uz-Zaman after receiving their SILVER MEDAL, kept it
on the ie on their TOES and when the entire team received that, THEY SYTARTED
JUGGLING WITH IT LIKE A FOOTBALL PLAYER JUGGLES WITH THE BALL.
After when the Indian team received their
BRONZE medal, the entire Pakistani team,
started SPATTING on their SILVER MEDAL and some the strew the PAKISTANI Hockey player THREW it to the Pakistani
supporters at the stand saying that this was NOT that they wanted at all to be with it and with them.
Every act of the Pakistani Hockey team
was taken in the camera and it was put to the I.O.A and the F.I.H and they
within TWO days BANNED the Pakistani team and it’s players except Akhtar
Rasool, Islauuddin and a few for a period of FOUR years and the rest who SPAT
on the SILVER medals were BANNED for LIFE.
The Pakistan Hockey National team was
banned for four years but thereafter the Pakistani Government along with the
P.H.F ( Pakistan Hockey Fedrartion ) , when they pleaded and put their case to
them the ban on the Pakistan team was LIFTED in 1973 which allowed them to play
in the 1973 World Cup that was held at Amsterdam.
However those players who were banned for
FOUR years were NOT SPARED. Pakistan had to play with all NEW PLAYERS from 1972
after the Olympics to 1974, when repeated request and persuasion made the I.O.A
and the F.I.H to have a soft corner for them and thereafter the banned
Pakistani players were allowed to represent their country.
As a measure to keep the SANCTITY of
I.O.A and the F.I.H, Air Marshal Noor Khan who was the C.E.O of the
Pakistani Hockey banned all those who SPAT on the SILVER MEDAL and who kept the
SILVER MDAL on their toes to juggle with it.
·
Pakistan thus lost
the service of Tanvir Dar, Abdul Rashid, , Mohammad Asad Malik (captain)
·
Saeed Anwar (vice-captain)
, Zahid Sheikh, Fazal-ur-Rehman, Akhtar-Ul-Islam, Muddasar Asghar, Jehangir Butt, Ifthikar
Syed, Riaz Ahmed, and Umar Farooq.
All the players that I
have ITALICISED were the REAL GEMS of Hockey but their act on the FIELD cut off
their career and Pakistan was thus forced to build a new look team which it did
in style and did in such an manner that Pakistan from 1978 to 1982 DID NOT
LOOSE any of the WORLD title of Hockey that they played.
It won the world Cup in
1978 and 1981, the Asian Games Championship in 1974, 1978 and 1982 when they
defeated India by 7-1 in the finals. It also WON the Olympic Hockey in 1984 a
tourney which either India or Australia was supposed to win.
Pakistan REMINDED by Ashok Kumar Of The 1972 incident in the
Finals of the world Cup Hockey -::
In 1974 after the finals
of the Asian games at Tehran a BEST ASIAN ELEVEN Hockey team was selected and
Ajit pal Singh, Ashok Kumar and Surjit Singh of India were selected in that
squad. That team played as many as FIVE games at Pakistan against the Pakistani
team and Five against India against the Indian National squad.
During that period,
Ashok Kumar and Ishlauudin got as THICK as THIEVES. It was because Ishlauddin
who was born at Meerut but had shifted to Pakistan has a NICHE and a TASTE for
Indian songs and Ashok Kumar was the BEST singer from any Hockey team then .
Whenever any incident
occurred out of the game Islahuddin would request Ashok- GAANA SUNA , means
Ashok, start singing a song, and Ashok would start singing the Old Hindi songs
for them . That brought the two together.
In the World Cup Hockey
finals of 1975 at Kuala Lumpur when Ashok scored that MARVELLOUS-MIRACLE Goal
from a push off a melee at the Pakistani Goal and beat their goalkeeper hands
down again the Pakistani team got into
the business. The entire team GHERAOED ie SURROUNDED the referee Mr Vijaynathan and started
demanding either to negate that goal or they would leave the field.
Pic :: Another example of Pakistan's Hockey Team " MISBEHAVIOUR "
It was Ashok who
reminded Ishlauddin all about the Munich incident and requested him to take the
charge of the team inspite that he WAS NOT THE CAPTAIN of that team.
Ishlauddin acted and the
thing fell into place . INDIA HAD WON HER ONLY WORLD CUP HOCKEY TITLE SO FAR-
ON THAT DAY.
1971, 1978, 1981 and 1994- THESE ARE THE YEARS THAT
PAKISTAN WON THE WORLD CUP . WE HAVE WON IT ONLY ON ONE OCCASION AND THAT WAS IN
1975 ON MARCH 15TH 1975.
I did all my BEST to find that photo of the Pakistani side misbehaving in the 1972 Olympic during the prize distribution, and it's ceremony during that occasion in that Olympics but I COULD NOT LAY my hands on the same.
However I'm PUTTING the clipping of the U-Tube of the German goal that Michael Krause scored on that day in that finals, 48YEARS ago and that was the START of the period when the ASIAN HOCKEY started ;losing everything SLOWLY in Hockey.
In the U-Tube one could easily see HOW THE PAKISTANI'S ARE SWIRLING THEIR SILVER MEDAL AND PUTTING IT ON THEIT TOES .
THAT IS HOW I PUT MY WORDS AND THE ARTICLES WITH " PROOF " as COMPARED to the MASTER'S and the Ph.D.holder's of (T)irpat (R)apatrolla Ka (P)aatshaala who simply BARK like the DOGS for NOTHING to come or get out of that.
Well , that is it and That sums it all.
Regards and Thanks

Thou this particular incident is a good insight, I personally never had any high quality expected to come from a nation that was born out of hatred. Yes Lilly blooming out of slushy surrounding, but certain nothing good out of the said geographic location.🧐
