" Duranni Trophy " March 14th 1972….. March 14th 2021 :: THE WIN THAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE CHANGE OF THE FACE OF INDIAN CRICKET Golden Jubilee Of Central Zone Infamous Duleep Trophy Win
Pic -:: Durrani Plays An Uppish Shot Of Mckenzie For Six . 1964, India V/s Australia, Bombay
He was not only famous for hitting sixes at the demand of the spectators. He also was very famous to win the match within a span of a few deliveries or swirl his bat in a merciless manner so as to change the complexion of the game and completely turn the match in favour of his team. This he did it umpteem number of times in his playing career and the shot above is one of them. Here in this picture he cracks an uppish shot of Graeme McKenzie over the fence for a six as watched by Wicket-keeper Brian Taber .
Never in the annals of India it did happen that a Trophy named and set up in the memory of some other cricketer was re-christened on a name of a player for his single handed effort for carving a win against his opponent and making his team to win it.It happened in and on 1972 on March 14th, when a very weak and a depleted Central Zone team helped by an Bradman like performance with the bat and an Gary Sobers like an all-round performane, won the Duleep Trophy for the first time under the Captainship of Hanumant Singh , ands the man who did was and made it possible was Salim Durrani whose 278 rums with an average of 78 runs plus per innings and 23 wickets helped him to win that Trophy for Central Zone on March 14th, 1972 and this entire article is all about that historical win in the annals of Indian cricket ....

THE WIN THAT IS THE " ORIGIN " OF THE " CHANGE " OF THE " FACE " OF INDIAN CRICKET
============================================================================
Article titled " March 10th 2021 :: “ GOLDEN ” Jubilee Of India’s “ FIRST ” Test Victory Over the West-Indies "..... has been inserted here in this blog page dated March 10th 2021 for the readers to read it and PLEASE read that .It is a REQUEST and THANKS.
=============================================================================
On March 14th 2022 it would mark the GOLDEN JUBILEE of the win beside the FIRST DAY of the GOLDEN JUBILEE of the change in and of the FACE-OF-INDIAN-CRICKET .
This day, here on the EARTH India, the people who
believe in the cost of the BLOOD and its value , - and
who believe in fighting till the end of their live …… they saw a
QUAKE which not only changed the COURSE, but the FACE
of the INDIAN CRICKET.
YES- in ONE of the most UNBELIEVABLE history of the game, a WEAK
and a DEPLETED Central Zone for the FIRST time, under the captainship of the
Late Hanumant Chandraveer Singh , , FAMOUSLY KNOWN AS Hanumant Singh completely
marshalling his Army with his able Lieutenant, Salim Azizuddin Durrani, in an diabolic
turn around toppled and humbled the MIGHT, RIGHT and the FIGHT
of the West Zone led by Ajit Wadekar at the Central College Ground at Bangalore
by 2 wickets to win the FIRST ever Duleep Trophy for
the Central Zone.
Incidentally Duleep Singhji Maharaj happens to be the Mamaji of
the late Hanumant Singh. His sister Madam Krishnaji had married
the Maharaja of Banswara, Mr Chadraveer Singh who happens to be the father of
Hanumant Singh. When Hanumant Singh lifted the Trophy , he could not hold his
tears. He KISSED that. That is against the RAJWADI tradition but
Hanumant later explained that Mamji had kissed him several times lifting him on
his ….. maybe lap, or shoulder and this was to shower his affection for the
late Mamji who was gone by then. He could not see his Bhanja bringing about a
great change in the dimension and modality of Indian cricket by changing the
face of it all by this one victory. Incidentally the Duleep Trophy is named
after Duleep Sinhji Maharaj, who was the nephew of Ranjit Singhji an
illustrious Indian cricketer who played cricket for England and English County.
Pic- :: March 14th, 1971 Hanumant Singh, Captain Of The Central Zone, " KISSING " The Trophy
Hanumant Singh had another reason to do that to KISS the trophy.
On EIGHT different occasion he along with Salim Durrani, played the Ranji
Finals against the Bombay side and could not win it even ONCE for Rajasthan .So
when he won that trophy courtesy Salim Duranni’s performance he and Durrani
told to each other- CHALO KUCH TOH HUA which means OK- SOMETHING TOGETHER WE
COULD DO .
He could not control his emotion and when the Governer of the erstwhile state Mysore, then, handed the Trophy, he " KISSED " that .This picture/photo that I have maintained is exactly FIFTY YEARS old and I put it for the benefit of the readers to see it. The cricket circle was SHOCKED to see Hanumant Singh doing it as he was a very STRICT disciplinarian and this photo send a wave of SHOCK then to the entire cricketing and sports circle.
West had scored 279 runs in the first and the
TWO thicks and thieves of friend Eknath Solkar and Milind Rege had top scored
both scoring 52 runs each. Duranni claimed 6 wickets in the first
innings.Central replied it with 200 with Ashok Jagdale
remaining unbeaten with 52 and Durrani with 20.
Eknath Solkar claimed 6 for 52.
Durrani All The Way :: T’was “ DURRANI
TROPHY ” roared all the newspaper
In the second Central got West out for 189 and the sports
foilers were Ashok Jagdale, Rakesh Tandon and Salim Durrani all with three
wickets each. Central needed about 279 to score and they did it
with two wickets to spare with Parthasarathy Sharma scoring an stylish and
sparkling 83 and Salim Durrani remaining unbeaten on 83.He
was ably supported by Mehboodullah who scored an unbeaten 11 to help Durrani to
cross the finishing line for the Central.
Never could one think then to beat Bombay in the Ranji or even
to beat a very strong West Zone team in the Duleep as there use to be as many
as eight from Bombay in the West Zone team and this time too it was. But Salim
Durrani ALONE did it in style by beating thois STRONG west-Zone team to win the
FIRST ever Duleep Trophy for the Central Zone team. .
In the entire tournament in three games Durani claimed 22
wickets which still is the highest number of wickets in a single Duleep season
claimed by any bowler so far. His best was against the South in the Semis where
he had an analysis of 44-18-38-6 . What was more. In the semis- the way he
clean bowled Pataudi with his stick broken in two pieces. He scored 278 runs in
five innings he batted in the tournament remaining not out once with an average
of 79.00 runs per innings.
In the very first match against the North Zone, a very strong
team, he bundled out North for 85 claiming 4 for 20 and Rakesh Tandon had
claimed 6 for 44.It started from there and ended on March 14th 1972 with
the history and the face of Indian cricket changed for ever.
Mind you, Durrani was then about 38 years of age
and this performance brought him back to the Indian squad against the visiting
England cricket team, then, led by Tony Lewis .Durrani in terms of age was and
has been the oldest cricketer to remarkably stage a comeback to the Test squad.
The 1972 Central Zone Duleep trophy team- it had ONLY one
Allrounder in Salim Durrani and a ONE pure batsman in Hanumant Singh- Durrani
won it singlehandedly for the Central Zone as a player. It was then the
SOBRIQUET- “ ONE MAN DEMOLITION SQUAD ” CAME INTO CRICKET AS A
TERMINOLOGY WHICH ACTUALLY KAPIL DEV WAS FOR INDIA IN TEST CRICKET.
This tourney threw Parthasarathy Sharma, Ashok Jagdale, Rakesh
Tandon and Anil Deshpande to the forefront of the national cricket but Durrani’s
performance was so magnanimous, so GRUESOME in deeds, and so AWESOME in action.
that everything other in term of performance was thrown at the back door
dumping spot of Indian cricket.
The ONE to suffer the most on this account was Ashok Jagdale. Batting
and Bowling , he was far ahead of Abid Ali but Abid’s fielding was far better
than Ashok’s fielding. Ashok Jagdale should have walked into the Indian cricket
team. But Salim Durrani’s HOUDINI neutralized them all and he melted the cricket
atmosphere by this ONE very DESTRUCTIVE performance- very PAINFUL for the
others to bear, but what a LOVELY PAIN that was to FEEL, and WRITE
That was “ DURRANI’S TROPHY ”.
Durrani that year in the Duleep Trophy, ruled the way the planet Shani rules the LIFE of an
individual, and Durrani in that season of Duleep Trophy was a RULER like the
Mars which governs and rules the planet- “ EARTH ”.
Best
Ever Economical Bowling Analysis by any Cricketer in any form of the game of
cricket
Read
this bowling analysis - :
44-18-38-6
It works out to be 0.86 runs per over, ie 0.86
runs per over which is NOT even one (01) runs per over .
This is the MOST ECONOMICAL bowling
analysis in the entire HISTORY of cricket and the man to do it was Salim
Durrani in the Duleep Trophy Semi-finals against the South Zone for the Central
Zone
Fifty Years has set in
when one speaks of that record that on this date . Central Zone had for the first time won the
Duleep Trophy and this record in the process was created by Salim Durrani and
his this record will never be BROKEN by anybody in any form of the cricket
game- now or in the future
He claimed Mansurr Ali Khan's wicket by breaking it into two
pieces during that analysis and also has bowled Vishvanath for 47 sending his
wicket cartwheeling like the fast bowlers do.
That Trophy of 1972 which the Central Zone won it was their
FIRST Duleep Triumph and is KNOWN as the, because it was rechristened that way –
“
DURRANI TROPHY "
Later Duranni after making his comeback in the Indian team once again in 1972 against the visiting Tony Lewis team at Calcutta, then , after that series acted in a film " CHARITRA " opoosing Parven Babi, one of the most glamorous heroine of the Indian Film Industry. Here he is teaching Parveen Babi to hold the bat during the break seesion during the shoot of that movie and this is about 48 years old picture which I'm putting it here for ther readers to see it and ENJOY the picture .
Pic -:On the set of the movie " CHARITRA " during the break,Durrani teaching Parveen Babi to hold the bat
