March 22nd, WORLD WATER DAY :: Death Looming Large Because Of Water Shortage

Pic - ::  Little Drops Of Water, Makes The Mighty Ocean

Finally we live in a world were we are serious about everything but we are not even bothered  to think about the most required means of the life and that is water.

Today is the WORLD WATER DAY. This day was established to discuss and talk about the ways and the means to conserve water and to use it properly beside to come out with new and innovative ideas to keep the water , AFLOAT by keeping it fresh and reuse it after it being used once.

My reading is the NEXT five years there will be acute shortage of water because of its misuse, hence the World Leaders should take it seriously and come up with an idea of HOW TO MAKE THE BEST USE OF THE WATER ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO CONSERVATION

Many and most of the times, we have heard the Hon’ble Prime Minister addressing us about the necessity to save the water and so many a times we have head him all, about using the water to wash our hands so as to keep it clean , and keep the germs of the Corona disease away .That is good but the question is  how many of them do have the privilege to use water the way it ought to be used.

“ Wash your hands when you get home, and keep scrubbing them for at least 20 seconds ” – that is good advice, with or without the coronavirus. However, there is one big problem: more than 40 per cent of the world’s population lives in regions where water is scarce and is increasingly becoming more so.

The United Nation’s Statistics ::

According to the United Nations, over two billion people are living with the risk of reduced access to freshwater resources, and by 2050, at least one in four people is likely to live in a country affected by chronic or recurring shortages of fresh water. Today, with Covid-19 present in every continent except Antarctica, washing hands as they should be washed is a difficult challenge in many developing countries. Clean water and soap are often in short supply, and many slum dwellers live in homes without running water. As the world confronts the coronavirus pandemic, clean and accessible water for all has become all the more essential.

The First resolution - ::

The resolution to observe World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 1992, after which March 22 was declared as World Water Day and is celebrated around the world since 1993.

The theme of World Water Day  is “ Valuing Water ” and has been chosen to highlight the value of water in our daily lives .

The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/47/193 of 22 December 1992 by which 22 March of each year was declared World Day for Water, to be observed starting in 1993, in conformity with the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) contained in Chapter 18

World Water Day 2021: Theme, history and how the day will be celebrated

·         The resolution to observe World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 1992, after which March 22 was declared as World Water Day and is celebrated around the world since 1993.

World Water Day is observed annually across the globe on March 22 with the purpose of highlighting the importance of water and raising awareness about the water crisis that the world faces. According to the United Nations (UN) website, the main focus of the day is to “support the achievement of sustainable development goal (SDG): water and sanitation for all by 2030.”

Every year , this day is celebrated on March 22nd, and every year seminars and the classes are held where it is discussed about what could be the means and resources to add more water, what could be the means to add more water through the reusable means, and about how to save water through the various means . Seminars are also held about how to clean the water for it’s valuable use by the most cheap and by the most expensive means.  More and more of such discoveries are being made and an attempt is made to learn about what are the best means that comes in as a handy to save and preserve water.

History of World Water Day

The resolution to observe World Water Day was first adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 22, 1992, after which March 22 was declared as World Water Day and is celebrated around the world since 1993.

Theme of World Water Day

The theme of World Water Day  is “ Valuing Water ” and has been chosen to highlight the value of water in our daily lives. “ The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment. If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this finite, irreplaceable resource,” the UN website says.

The United Nation’s Theory - :: The theory of the United Nation is not at all disturbing
.This was seen and observed by many a brilliant heads for so many a years and this is now that they have said it and that is  something on which one has to rework and rethink immediately if at all if the world has to save itself from the worst ever disastrous that it could see. It plainly says that by the end of 2025 HALF of the GLOBAL population and especially in the THIRD WORLD nation, the scarcity of water will take away many a life as half of the population of the world will be without the amount of water required to stay alive.

The WORST is not far away and the UNO has this to put it forward as it’s propensities theory, and it is as such - ::

1 in 3 people live without safe drinking water.

By 2025, half of the global population will be living in areas where water is scarce.

World Water Day celebrations

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, World Water Day 2021 will be celebrated virtually in which the United Nations Water Development report will be released with the purpose of recommending policy directions to various countries on how to deal with the water crisis. The UN website also urges people to participate in online conversations about the importance of water by using social media

 World Water Day in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain’ campaign during a video conference in which a memorandum of agreement (MOA) will be signed between the Jal Shakti ministry and the government of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for starting the Ken-Betwa Link project. The Ken-Betwa Link is the first river-linking project in India which is aimed at carrying water from surplus areas to those that are water-scarce by interlinking rivers, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

How real is the fresh-water crisis?

According to the UN, more than 40 per cent of the world’s population lives in regions where water is becoming increasingly scarce, and that figure is likely to rise. Every day, nearly 1,000 children die from preventable water- and sanitation-related diseases. Drought afflicts some of the world’s poorest countries, worsening hunger and malnutrition. According to technology product company 3M India, "the looming water crisis is a wake-up call for India, with over 600 million people facing high to extreme rate of water stress”.

Let us look at some instances to understand how real the freshwater crisis is:

1. In 2019, residents of Chennai had to queue up for water delivered by tanker trucks because the city’s reservoirs were empty. A drought, worsened by climate change, had almost exhausted local supplies. Chennai, home to 7 million people, still faces severe shortages, and might exhaust its groundwater within a few years.

“India’s water demand will surpass supply by the end of this decade. This World Water Day is a call to action for each one of us to make well informed choices regarding our water consumption habits,” according to Grundfos India.

2. In rural Mexico, some 5 million people lack access to clean water. Women and children collect water, taking time that could be spent in school or on some other activity. Meanwhile, men decide how water rights are allocated.

Solution to end the water crisis

To improve sanitation and access to drinking water, there needs to be increased investment in freshwater management and sanitation facilities in developing countries within Central Asia, Southern Asia, Eastern Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South-Eastern Asia.

Here's how one can help

"Over 40 per cent of water gets wasted because of errors, leakages and inefficient controls across consumer and industrial levels, thus impeding access to water across all strata of the society and has grave implications for the environment," according to Danfoss India.

So, the least you can do is – don't waste water. Use water efficiently. You can help by:

• Turning off faucets when not in use

• Shortening the length of showers

• Using low-flow toilets

• Watering plants by hand rather than hose

Well , that is it and That sums it all.

Regards and Thanks
