INDIA WINS AN UNBELIEVABLE MIRACULOUS TEST MATCH
THIS WAS THE 131st TEST INDIA WAS PLAYING IN HER ANNALS OF TEST CRICKET.
History has its own way to make somebody weep and then it chooses the right and the correct method as well as the time for the same to LAUGH and makes the others to cry
HISTORY AT TIMES MAKES THE OTHERS TO BELIEVE A FOOL
Today is the DAY when the Indian cricket team did what the ALL TIME GREAT INVINCIBLE Aussie’s under the GREAT Don Bradman did.
In 1947-48 The Aussies under the captainship of Donald Bradman chased 404 runs in the second knock to defeat England and it was for the first time in the history of cricket that a team had chased over 400 runs to win a Test match.
Never then the pundits of the game could ever imagine that there will be again a moment in the annals of Test match that a team will chase this many a runs in the last innings to carve out a win.The closest that came was New-Zealand in 1972-73 against England when chasing a mammoth fourth innings total of 438 to win in the fourth innings, aided by a knock of 178 by Bevan Congdon and a 114 by Victor Pollard, the Kiwis came upto the score of 414 when the petrol ran out of the their car and it was all over for them.. The Kiwi wing was clipped. England had won that match courtesy a knock of 178 by Keith Flecther.
This match was played between April 7th 1976 to April 12th 1976 at Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. West-Indies won the toss and rammed up a healthy score of 357 with Viv Richard blasting the Indian bowlers for 177.He was well supported by Clive Lloyd who scored 68.Other contributors were Berrnard Julien(47).Chandrashekar claimed 6 for 120 and B S Bedi took 4 for 88.
NOBODY- Nobody then in the annals of the game, could ever think that in the near future any team would score over 400 to win the Test match chasing the total in the fourth innings. That happened in this Test after India at one stage were fighting to save this one and at last they won this one.
Replying to the mammoth total of the West - Indies and taking all the pastering from the King of Cricket then, Viv Richard, India could only muster 228 in their first knock with Madanlal having top scored with 42, and the other principal scorers were , Gundappa Vishvanath with 41, Sunil Gavaskar scored 26.Mike Holding with 6 for 66 was the tormentor and the dozer.
West-Indies in their second knock declared at 271 for 6 with Alvin Kallicharran mustering an unbeaten 103. L.Rowe(29),Roy Fredricks(25), Lloyd ( 36), Derryck Murray(25) were the other contributor. Venkat claimed 3 for 65 and Chandra took 2 for 83. Infact Chandra in this match had claimed 8 for 203 runs.
Needing 404 for an outright win, India scored through Vishvanath(112), Gavaskar(102), Mohinder Amarnarth(85), Brijesh Patel(49no) and Gaekwad(28) .The partnership which saw India through was the one between Amarnath( 448 deliveries,85runs) and Vishvanath(224 deliveries 112), after Gavaskar and Gaekwad added 68 for the first wicket and Amarnath and Gavaskar added 102 for the second.
In the last 66 minutes 66 runs were needed and Brijesh Patel who scored and unbeaten 49 saw India through.
Mohinder Amarnath the Main ANCHOR ::

It was MOHINDER whose knock, who anchored the Indian innings playing 448 deliveries scoring an 85 was the one who really made this win achievable. He shared a 102 runs for the second wicket with Gavaskar, 159 runs with Vishvanath and again a 57 runs partnership with Brijesh Patel. 448 deliveries means about 75 overs. That is how he was at the crease in toto to carve out this win. Vishvanath’s 228(38 overs) was the CEMENT & CONCRETE for this Indian win. Together Vishvanath and Mohinder played 448+ 224= 672 deliveries(112 overs) and that speaks about their effort and their volume for enabling India to register one of the MOST UNBELIEVABLE Test victory.

In the 1974-75 Test series against the same team , Windies had set a total of 404 for India to win the Test match. At that time India lost the test by 202 runs, and that was the last Test Pataudi led India. That team had Gavaskar, Vishvanath, Gaekwad, Brijesh Patel, B S Bedi, B S Chandrashekar, and Eknath Solkar, and they all played in this Test to help India to carve out a MIRACULOUS UNEXPECTED victory.
‘ MEMORY AND GLORY ARE REWRITTEN ONLY TO BE INSCRIBED FOR A SMASHING RECURRENCE”
This TEST along with that TEST that India won against the Aussies in 1964 at the Brabourne Stadium are the TWO best Test match equally shared in importance in the annals of their Indian Test history.
Later in a Test match against Australia West-Indies aided by two beautiful knock by Ramnaresh Sarwan and Chanderpaul the Windies chased a total of 418 to win that Test Match breaking India's record of that chase of 406 runs.
In the picture above, a national declaration was made by the Windies Radio Station that there would be a rainfall during the evening. The Indian needed about 66 runs in 66 minutes for the match to be over with Patel and Madanlal playing there at the centre .
The anxious Indian team seen here, are anxiously watching about what Brijesh Patel could do. He scored a brisk unbeaten 49 to steer India home for that miraculous victory adding a 66 runs for the fifth wicket with Madanlal to achieve one of the most outstanding victory for India in the Test match. Madanlal remained unbeaten with 11 in that innings after having top scored with a 42 in the first.
Well , that is it and That sums it all.
Regards and Thanks
