INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY OF BROADCASTING
International Children’s Day of Broadcasting
ICDB
ICDB, celebrated on the second Sunday of every December, is a
day when broadcasters around the world "Tune in to Kids". They air
quality programming for and about children. But most of all, they allow
children to be part of the programming process, to talk about their hopes and
dreams and share information with their peers.
The Day is a joint initiative of UNICEF and the International
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Every year, thousands of
broadcasters in more than a hundred countries take part in the day, celebrating
it in ways that are as unique and special as children themselves.
ICDB
2016
Every year the ICDB prepares it’s own motto and makes the
programme for this mega event and each year sees a different mooto and a
different programme .This year 2021 also was different but to lay as an
example, I shall state here the motto and the programme of the year 2016.
The 2016 International Children's Day of Broadcasting will take
place on 9 December 2016 with the theme “ The World We Want.”
What kind of world do children want to live in? Five years ago,
youth around the world met in New York to attend the Special Session for
Children. The outcome of that meeting was the agenda which emphasized on the lines of “ Building
a World Fit for Children,” which laid out four main priorities and
those are as illustrated-:
1). Promoting healthy
lives;
2). Providing quality education;
3 ) .Protecting children
against abuse, and
4 ) .exploitation and violence; and Combating HIV/AIDS.
There are and there have ben many a querries raised and some of
them are-:
On the fifth anniversary of this agenda, how far have we come?
Have these goals been achieved in your communities? What problems still exist?
What suggestions do the youth have to solve them? What can be done to build a
world for children?
2021 is also the 23rd anniversary of the signing of the Convention
on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The CRC states that children have the right
to voice their opinions and have access to media that children can understand.
UNICEF believes youth also have the right to participate in the
media-making process and the International Children's Day of Broadcasting was
launched in 1991 to help open the airwaves to young people.
Broadcasters around the world, both television and radio, are
encouraged to participate in this special day by creating special programs for
kids and inviting youth into the studio to participate in the production and
presentation of broadcasts.
UNICEF also appeals for broadcasters to invest in local youth by
incorporating them in the production process year-round, not just on the ICDB.
That is it
Regards and Thanks
