Why Did The Government Of India sell the Air-India To The Tatas Group Of Companies

Before I write on this subject, let me make it very clear that I had the opportunity to travel to New Delhi on January 2020 by an Indian Airlines plane and from there I boarded the flight to Colombo at Sri-Lanka by an Air-Indian flight. This flight may be or  might not be a flight of infancy for me but the experience to travel by flight to Colombo was my first experience with AIR – INDIA and it was the FIRST of all the international flight for me. I can assure all, one and subdry that this was a REAL EXCELLENT experience for me to travel by Air-India.It took about 210 minutes from New Delhi to fly by an Air-India flight and reach Colombo and the travel was real worth as an experience for me as I travelled with gay and elan in the flight.

At times peeing through the window , there, during the flight, and looking at the Indian Ocean was a treat to the eye. It was enjoyable and a great treat to have experienced my sojourn to Colombo by the Air-India flight.

Sometimes after  that it always was in my mind to write about Air-India but after about two years when and since then, I take to time to write and ponder about why did Mr Modi and his Government take thedecision to sell Air – India to the Tatas .

TATAS NEVER WANTED INDIA TO RUN AIR- INDIA-::

It was from the house of  the Tata, Mr J.R.D Tata who brought the Air-India to fly it’s passenger at India. They were the one’s who were the originator of the same.

I would first continue with the FARCASM as always, whenever there is any concrete decision taken by Mr Modi in the interest of the nation all the media, all the opposition and everywhere there are voices against him. Fracas sarcasm  and fascism are the habits of the one’s who are always against Mr Modi whenever he does something for the nation.Hence I start by write-up by all the nonsence and then I would revert back to the original history and the realism about selling this MAHARAJA to  the Tatas.

Why Is That Mr Modi Sold This National Pride To The Tatas-:

Because Air India is the private property of Mr Modi just like the recent central vista also known as Modi Mahal. Air India was actually AIR-MODI to travel from one end of the world to the other as Modi loves to travel as travelling is his national duty.

As we all know our beloved  Narendra Bhai loves travelling.  He just travels because he likes travelling. Till now he has gone on 110 foreign trips and 60 countries. The reports said that got bored with Air India flights and crew so he decided to sell it unilaterally to his beloved crony capitalists friends and industrialist.

Strange he did not approach the Ambanis’, the Adani’s and the Advani’s for the same. Instead he approached the Tatas for doing all the “ TATA ” to Air-India.

Okay, enough of lame sarcasm.

Let's dig into some history.

Tatas are pioneers of industrialization and business in India from pre-Independence times and contributed their blood and sweat to help build modern India.

India from the dawn of the Nehru era, had opened about 1100 Public Sector units, and of which there are about 15 to 20 left in the fray, the Tatas opened about 43 business units, that ranged from a TURN-OVER from Rs crores per annum to about Rs 50,000=00 crores per annum and only 10 of them or maybe 15 remains. The rest have either been merged with  their some other units or in some cases they have sold and closed that. The examples of Empress Mills of Nagpur and TOMCO are the examples of the same. TOMCO is a class example because the Billiard World champion Geet Sethi and the former Captain  of the Indian School team, the late Ajit Nayak were the employee of TOMCO.

They are entrepreneurs at heart and this seed was first sown by Jamshedji Tata 150 years ago. JRD Tata inherited the legacy of Jamshedji Tata, he was a visionary business leader, a humanitarian and a builder of great airlines with national and international networks.

The Hunger Of The Government Of India Was In-satiating - ::

Air India was founded by JRD at the age of 29 in 1932. In 1949, the government of India bought a 49% stake in the company but this  did not satify that greed and the hunger of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru . It was then the cabinet that comprised of some of the Ministers that were in that council of Mr Nehru’s Ministry that advised him to nationalize the Airlines business in India and Mr Nehru exactly did that. Later thereafter in 1969 on July 19th, Mrs Indira Gandhi nationalized the Banking Sector, and therafter the  National Coal Development Corporation, into the  Coal India Limited .

AIR INDIA UNDER THE TATS WHICH FLEW WITH THE NAME  “ MAHARAJA-TATAS-AIRLINES thereafter went on to  become the Indian Airlines with the airlines and the fleet that flew within India and it’s boundary became the Indian Airlines and that which crossed the border to fly abroad became the Air-India .

JRD Tata vehemently opposed the Nationalisation Of the Airlines at India

At the time when the Government of India was on the verge of nationalizing the Airlines which was then run only by the tats, Mr JRD vehemently and completely opposed the same. In so much so that he ordered some of the peers who were then at the Rajya Sabha to come out of the Rajya Sabha as an feeling to vent the rage inside, which everybody who went to the rajya Sabha then, with the recommendation of Mr JRD did and comply with his request.

JRD vehemently opposed the nationalisation of Airlines but Nehru didn't give heed to his views. The government of India stubbornly went ahead with their plan and nationalised Air India in 1952. This completely drifted the relation of the Tats with the Government of India then.

JRD was absolutely in pain. He knew it well that the Government of India of any day would not be able to maintain, run and control the airlines as the management of the same required something different in terms of the management rather than the management of the Government policy to run that.  He openly declared, then, that one fine day the Government of india will either dump the airlines in the bins waste paper basket or will sell it back to the one’s from whom they have infact SNATCHED that.

His words on nationalization which he openly stated and which were floated by the Times-Of-India, then , were-:

My own friend Nehru stabbed me in my back. I can only deplore that so vital a step was taken without giving us a proper hearing

- JRD Tata on the cruel and sudden nationalisation of his beloved Airlines.

Mr JRD had a belief and his belief was based on the fact that the  Government owning would mean bureaucracy, lethargy, and decline in quality of his  “ CROWN – JEWEL ”  . After 50 years, his every word turned out to be true and Air India became a mess and burden on the Indian government.

The Government Bailout-:: Mr Praful patel Was The Chief Destructor –

Before  I write something about the real story about why the Airlines that was run by the Government of India into a great loss and the actual reason behind it, I would first finish with the Tats about the same and then about how Mr Praful Patel made it a BEGGAR with a BOWL in the hand to beg before the Government of Madam TILES-ITALIA  for it’s survival.

In 2012, the government of India released a whopping Rs 30,000cr bailout package out of Rs 67,000cr  as a debt to revive the Airlines but still, the airlines showed no signs of profit.

In 2018, the Modi government attempted to put a 75% stake in airlines for sale but end up attracting no one. Tatas wanted a whole 100% stake.

In 2020, the Modi government decided to sell 100% of airlines and Tatas came forward and bought. This in short is enough to dscribe all about the packages and the debts and it’s part of the story about the manner in which the Government  tried to bring the Airlines to the BLUE from the RED but at last it was left with no option to sell it to the Tatas.

Mr Praful Patel was and is a Minister which…… well to describe these kind of  personalities, it would be better to write that in India, we will always have from  now onwards to see the Minsiters with NO sense at all that relates to business to maintain the business units at all. Most of them will come from the background of either that would start from their Grandfathers’ to the one’s who would be in the politicvs at any level, for them to join politics and somehow grab at seat at the national level of politics only to LOOT and BARK nonsense on the national TV with the TV channels FUNK to glorify them as TWINKLE-TWINKLE little star, UP ABOVE THE SKY SO HIGH. When I see the idiots of the Nehru – Gandhi family, the owls of the RED , ie, the LAAL TOPI, the ROSOGOLLAS of the AMMAR-SONAR-BANGLA, and the  the LAAL-MIRCHI of the Marathi Bhau AAMCHA-TUMCHAA parties, it makes me fully convinced that the days are not far away when we will have to take a begging bowl to stand on the road and beg for our living till we die. That is where the HEADS of the present Indian politics oisi heading for. The start of that or the initiator or the originator could be crowned to Mr Praful Patel, who just is a BAKWAAS , ie, BULLSHIT  of Indian politics. Not that the BJP is DOODH-KA-DHULA  ie , the one’s who have come from the Eden and Heaven above, in that matter, Bhupendra Yadav and some more are the examples of the same.

Mr Praful patel when he was the Minister of Civil aviation , in a sudden move to give the space to the KING-OF-GOOD-TIMES who mostly was in the state of intoxicating India , hearing to his plea and getting the nod from the TILES-ITALIA except for the airspace that flew the airlines to North Eastern state, gave everything of the air space to the KING OF THE GOOD TIMES to try out his luck. That dug the national carrier of india like anything and THAT WAS THAT.

Taking away all the very important air space made the King Of The Good Times to feel that the major business as a profit would come to his pocket. The peanuts in terms of the air space where the high profits that would not accrue or come, especially the North East air space was given to the Indian Airlines for flying their planes on the same. Exactly and ditto was the case for Air - India to feel the bugs and the heat of the same when all the very important air space that would bring a voluptous business for the King Of The Good Times were given away to him to do the business. However that did not result in any good business or profit for the King Of The Good Times. The national carrier of the Government of India had to bear the nonsence and the losses. Mr Praful Patel should really be accorded with that great honour. The Government loss and it's inability to recover the loss to any extent then became a source to sell this national Airlines to the TATAS and this is how the Government sold it back to the TATAS from whom in an manner they had siezed this air carrier.

That way and in that manner the Airlines was gasping for breath in India and thereafter when all the airspace to fly the DARU-KI-BOTTAL-MAI-BHARKAR-AIRLINES-CHALATA-HAI, ie, flying the airlines by filling the bottles of wine, the national airlines was such that BINA PIYE MUJHAY AAYA HAI NASHA , ie, intoxication to me comes by even not sipping the wines, and what would be the condition when somebody is intoxicated without even sipping wine- for that became the condition of the national airlines of India.

The King Of Good Times has fled from this country, his son has renounced the WORLD after kissing all the infamous national actresses that we say or call or term them in the I.P.L matches in public, and thereafter the I.P.L is the only ONE that remains.  Once the Government at the centre  changes, the  KINGS-ALL will come to the QUEEN-TILES-ITALIA, the sons again will RENOUNCE BRAHMACHARISMS, as we call them, and again the I.P.L and the one’s who go to the I.P.L to do all the nonsense in the public will  also come. For this as all about I.P.L.

On December 7th 2021, I posted an article about Swami Vivekanad playing cricket and then writing all about HOW CRICKET AS A GAME CAN DESTROY HUMANISM as exalined by Swami Vivekananda, and this is how the I.P.L is destroying the nation as well as the decency of the country.

Thos who live by dirtiness will always praise the same and whatever it maybe, I.P.L in India will never come to and end till India comes to it’s own end. Till that time, cricket, I.P.L and the nonsense that are related with the Indian politics will completely annihilate and destroy India.

Back to the main subject after all the sarcasm on cricket, I.P.L and politics of India.

Modi  The Narendra Bhai Sahab, just undid the grave injustice made to Tatas.

Now Air India has gone into the hands of the real owners once again after 68 years.

The most IMPORTANT part of this history and commentary without writing any words of SARCASM is how did the Tatas take the Air-India back from the Government of India.

How the Government took Air India from JRD Tata, asked him to run it, and then took it away again

As the current government tries to make Air India go full circle with its attempts to disinvest in the company, this book recounts how it was privatised.

Nationalization was hotly debated since Independence. JRD [Tata] opposed it on several platforms but wasn’t invited by the government to present his views. The decision was a “ fate-  accompli ”. Communications Minister Jagjivan Ram, who supervised modalities of nationalisation, did consult JRD, but that was about compensation to be given to companies getting nationalised. JRD was disheartened.

At a luncheon meeting with Prime Minister Nehru in November 1952, he expressed his anguish that the Government had intentionally treated the Tatas shabbily, and that it was a planned conspiracy to suppress private civil aviation, particularly the Tatas’ Air Services. Nehru reassured him of no such intentions.

Jawaharlal Nehru was a Prime Minister who never would take any decision independently for anything. He always had his council of Ministers for everything to guide and counsel him for. What his council of Minister’s would say him is what he would do. He did what his council of Ministers’ told him to do to the Tats Airlines and he exactly did that.  In fact, in a personal letter to JRD, he placed on record the high appreciation he had for the Tatas, who had pioneered several projects, and the excellent services rendered by Air India International

In his reply, JRD expressed his disappointment at the Government’s decision to proceed with such a major step without any consultations with the Tatas, who were pioneers in Indian civil aviation.

He emphasized his conviction that nationalisation would not result in an efficient and self-supporting Air transport system. All along, JRD’s contention was that the new government of India had no experience in running an airline company, and nationalisation would mean bureaucracy and lethargy, decline in employee morale and fall in passenger services.

The Government maintained that nationalisation would bring order to the industry, and that the Congress Party had a policy to nationalise all modes of transport since two decades, beside many more industries that were run and manned by the private players. . In hindsight, the communication between the two stalwarts of Indian polity and Indian business represents perspectives belonging to two ends of the spectrum. It would take six decades to reveal whose viewpoint stood the test of time. For the time being, the discord seriously impacted the warm relationship between India’s first Prime Minister and the leader of India’s largest business house.

To employ his expertise, the government invited JRD to lead Air India and Indian Airlines as chairman. After protracted conversations at Tata Sons, JRD accepted the chairmanship of Air India, and a directorship on the Board of Indian Airlines. He was particularly concerned that the high standards of Air India International should not be adversely affected by nationalisation.

This is how the story goes and this is how the prediction of Mr JRD came true that the Indian Government will never and not be able to handle, run and manage the national carrier of India.

At last the MAHARAJA is back to his place, OH!!!!! SO SORRY TO WRITE THAT SO  IMPERFECTLY, TO IT’S “ PALACE ”  if I have to write it " APPROPRIATELY "

That is it

Regards and Thanks
