Presidential Election :: Would it be a " CAKE WALK " or a " HARD NUT " to crack for the NDA and BJP.

Pic - :: The Process Of the selection Of The President Of India

Is the 2022 presidential election going to be tough for the Bharatiya Janata Party?

The spates of the states election for the year 2022 is over. Now next comes the Presidential election and even that would be interesting to see and draw the conclusion.

One really has to see on which direction the scale will tilt or move in the Presidential election and what would really constitute in terms of selecting the FIRST CITIZEN of this country.

The important question is WILL THE PRESENT PRESIDENT WOULD CONTINUE OR WOULD THERE BE A CHANGE IN THE  BATTON?. Which side of the coin will take the precedence- the HEAD or the TAIL.

Let us discuss how is the President of India selected. What constitutes the selection of the President of India.. How is that he gets the nod and how is that the total of the Member of the Parliament and the members Of the Legislative council helps in making and shaping the President of India.

The actual notes that encompasses the selection of the President of India and the modalities that goes with it are as under-::

President of India is elected by the members of an electoral college consisting of:

·         Elected MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha

·         Elected MLAs of the States (including UT States)

Value of each MP’s vote is 708. Value of each MLAs vote is different for different States .It actually is based on the states and their strength in providing these MLA’s and hence the points or the value differs?. The range are different and hence the points or the values are different?.Within the bracket here I put the values or the points or the votes which substitutes the points here.(ranging from 7 for Sikkim to 208 for UP).

On this basis if we leave out the vacant seats as on 01–03–2021:

·         Total Value of MPs votes = 5,46,576

·         Total Value of MLAs votes = 5,35,415

·         Total Votes of PEC = 10,81,991

NDA's Presidential nominee will need more than 50% of this; that is 5,41,000 Votes for a win.

Pic - :: An Illustration Of The Calculation Of The Presidential Election

Let us now calculate the votes available with NDA.

MPs: BJP: 302 LS + 95 RS = 397 MPs and Other NDA = 30 LS + 25 RS = 55 MPs which makes it a total of 452 MPs for NDA.

MLAs: Out of total 3969 MLAs (filled up seats), BJP has 1374 MLAs and other NDA 381 MLAs which makes it a total of 1755 MLAs for NDA.

The state elections are over and BJP has lost about 40 MLA’s at UP, though it has gained a few in Uttrakhand and at Bengal it still has about  77 of the MLA’s with it at it’s pocket. The BJP has lost  many at Punjab but has managed itself to make a few gains in a very minimal number at Manipur and Goa.

More or less the BJP would be having about 3800 numbers of MLA’s which also would include the total of the MLA’s of the NDA . I also take that the NDA will have NO DIFFERENCE with the BJP to select the president which BJP would like to select or elect. It had happened once when Shiv Sena differed on the mater and the opinion of selecting the President when Mr Bala Sahab Thakeray opted for Madam Patil and sided for  to be selected for the post of President , getting away from the NDA on that account.

OK- the total value in terms of the total votes,  on a rough consideration is calculated and projected here-:

Total Value of NDA MP’s Votes = 3,20,016

Total Value of NDA MLA's Votes = 2,28,577

Total Value of NDA Votes in PEC = 5,48,593

That means NDA has " 7,500 " surplus votes !

Next Presidential Election is due in July 2022. Prior to that State Assembly Elections will be held in Assam, Kerala, Puduchery, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Manipur, Punjab, UP and Uttarakhand. In some states BJP is expected to gain MLA seats while in some it may lose. However, the present surplus of 7500 votes is a fairly good cushion!

Further, the Parties like BJD and YSRCP and Independents generally support NDA.

Therefore, NDA can elect it's President very comfortably in July 2022!

 That is all about it

That is it

Regards and Thanks
