The Start Of The " VIRTUAL-GOLDEN-JUBILEE " Of My " FIRST " Ever Project Dissertation On Marketing Of " CHILLI "

It was the year December 1983 when we were told to start our project dissertation and it's  work by the Director Of the Department of Business Management, Nagpur and Mr Jal.P.Gimi issued  the order regarding the same.
Since the job was started by me in the month of December 1983, in an manner the time has entered that arena  where one could construe that the Virtual Golden Jubilee period has started , or , the time has moved into that arena, and hence I felt it necessary to jot this one, down, in the memory lane as this was the FIRST  of such a voluminous job that I had to do in terms of writing a dissertation which are generally used to write to obtain the Doctorate degree.
One would asks me what is " DISSERTATION "  . Well it is as  such - :
" A dissertation or thesis is a long piece of academic writing based on original research. It is usually submitted as part of a PhD or master's, and sometimes as part of a bachelor's degree. Your dissertation is probably the longest piece of writing you've ever done, and it can be intimidating to know where to start . "
This was the FIRST ever experience for us and for all my batchmate who were in the Final year of our M.B.A  studies to lay our hand on the same.
The real problem was  WHAT TO CHOOSE AS OUR TOPIC FOR THE SAME. Till then, we were all under the umbrella of being the amateur student of Business Management studies. This was the first step to plunge into the realm of the professional administration for which a NATURAL and ORIGINAL work in terms of the research and compilation of the various statistics to assimilate  that into a subject of realm was to be submitted by us . For a number of days we were all perplexed , first to choose the topic on which we could do the studies ands then submit the thesis to the Head of our Department to further send it to the Nagpur University for it's acceptance as submission by us, in individual to fulfil out partial obligation in terms of the submission to get that post graduate degree of M.B.A from the Nagpur University.

The Topic To Choose was The Most Hardest - :
Which topic to choose and that was the determining factor. It was such an aldous task to choose one and for many a days I had to bang my head against the wall. Infact we were given only 10 days after the Director told us to get ready to submit our topic for the Dissertation and on the tenth day the SYNOPSIS was to be submitted. There was somebody I met while travelling by a city bus- back to my house, one day after attending the theoretical class. . He had passed his DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT way back at the end of the seventies who had completed his work on the subject of MARKETING OF CHILLI but that was not upto the mark as it was clarified by the Nagpur University to him . He spoke all about the same to me and  I PREFERRED TO CHOOSE THIS ONE AS MY TOPIC FOR MY PROJECT DISSERTATION EMPHASISING ON THE BHIWAPUR CHILLI MARKET which is the LARGEST and the BIGGEST Chilli market of the entire Western India and the Central India stationed very near to a place by the name Umrer, near Nagpur.

Pic - :: Example Of One Of The Chapter  Of The Project Dissertation
I submitted the entire SYNOPSIS exactly on the tenth day, ie, the LAST DAY of the date of the submission of the Dissertation and within ONE shot, the GUIDE, Mr Q.H.Jiwaji accepted it and passed it to the Director of the Department for his approval.
He glanced it and found all the topics of the SYNOPSIS , excellent and absolutely upto the mark for it's presentation.
IMMEDIATELY A NO-OBJECTION CERTIFICATE WAS ISSUED TO ME TO MOVE AHEAD WITH THE COMPLETION OF THE SAME, AND THAT CERTIFICATE DIRECTED THE AUTHORITIES WHOM I WOULD MEET TO RENDER ME ALL THE HELP TO GO AHEAD WITH THE PROJECT.
It was thereafter moving from one shop to another, one area of the market at Nagpur to the another, one , as we call it, a MANDI, ie , a WHOLESALE market  to the another and all the important office that maintains the record of the sale of the chilli's and the same, for the compilation of the records.
The job was aldous and taxing but it was also exciting. The people whom I mostly met were the illiterate farmers, the sellers, maybe the retailers, the shop-keepers, and at some cases the big FISH of the market who controlled the entire market.
It was not very easy to get the facts out from them, but efforts did bring in some result which were OK and good enough for me to move ahead with the project.
After every intermediate steps, and after every discussions which I did , moves after moves, discussing the finer points of every need for the same to complete the project, every new discussions opened out new avenues for further probe  and examination on the same. The progress continued and many an addition and deletion took place where after about thaw the two -and-a-half months of probe and research, and after completing the patch work of writing when I placed my virtual papers for the final evaluation to my GUIDE he just put a remark saying that- PROJECT APPROVED FOR FINAL SUBMISSION
It was a moment of TRIUMPH . Now I had to prepare the entire project report which would be termed as a DISSERTATION- the FIRST of my LIFE that I was going to submit with all the statistics, facts and the final study report to obtain my degree of the studies of the M.B.A that I did for those two years.
For a MOMENT I had felt that my neck was tied to the noose which ultimately got released from it as the scheduling was so tough to complete that.

Pic - :: The Isometric " THREE -DIMENSIONAL - BAR  " Chart Drawn By Hand And Not The Computer in 1984 .
Every thing was going smoothly as my friend at Nagpur, Mr Sanjay Vishvanath Kapoor who was a very good typist completed the entire typing in ONE-PLUS-THREE copies on his typewriter on and during that time.
However the real HARDEST time came when my guide saw the final typing which was absolutely FANTASTIC as he had described then. But the last of the problem that surfaced was the PREPARATION OF THE GRAPHS and doing it in an manner that the COMPUTER NOW-A-DAYS does that
During our days,  WE NEVER HAD ANYTHING RELATED TO THE COMPUTERS  AT NAGPUR. There was the V.R.C.E Engineering College, the infamous Regional College of Engineering,  which had the computer but that was for their own student and NOT for the outsider. There was one that belonged to Mr Charu Sagdeo, who was a famous CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT and who taught us the elective  FINANCE MANAGEMENT , but his computer was for his office for the subject " COBOL " ( Conversion Of Business Into Other Commercial  Language ).

Pic - :: The Isometric " TWO-DIMENSIONAL- BAR " Chart Drawn By Hand in 1984 .
I took the permission from Mr Charu Sagdeo, and for ONE day I sat in his office to understand the COBOL part of the same. The person who operated that system was an Engineering passed out student from V.R.C.E,  and who was ONE year Junior to me at the same department from where I was doing my Management studies. He explained me the entire COBOL language and he portrayed the illustrations and the diagram about how to convert the language of the business and the statistics into a chart which at one glance depicts all the differentiation and the variances in terms of the pictorials and the diagram.

Pic - : The  " FIRST - EVER - BAR " Chart  Ever Drawn In The Entire University Of India Then,  Using The Coloured Paper in 1984
This was enough for me to move ahead for the final push which could be the ICING ON THE CAKE. My friend who was as good as my family member, Mr Shahshikant Menon, a M.Com from the Sagar University who tutored me Finance Management and who could completely understand the entire logic of the COBOL took upon him to plot, chart and graph out the entire representation of the studies and  WE WITHOUT THE HELP OF ANY COMPUTERS AND IT'S HELP TO FEED THE COMPUTER WITH THE INPUTS TO GET THE OUTPUT IN TERMS OF THE DIAGRAPHICAL CHART, WE MAPPED THE ENTIRE STATISTICS INTO A SYSTEM OF GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION. first on the graph sheet and then on the plain white sheet .
Since I had studied Maths, as an elective for my B.Sc. studies, I took the pain to convert the huge representation of the statistics into the minimal scale of centimetres and millimetres, on the graph sheet first,  to plot it in the X and the Y axis , and later using the graph sheet, we felt  instead of submitting these on the graph paper, do it accurately and appropriately on the WHITE SHEET PAPER.
For the FIRST time in our LIFE while doing our studies, we lay our hands on the THREE-DIMENSIONAL charts where we took the Z axis which actually would be the REFLEXIVE chart , on the PARALLEL to the Y Axis as in an original manner, because,  if we had to take the Z Axis actually it would not have contained itself on the chart paper to  appear at all.  THIS WAS A TOTALLY NEW EXPERIMENT WHICH REALLY TOOK ALL THE ONE'S WHO WERE GUIDING ME BY SURPRISE.
We showed it to our Guide and he was so PROUD and HAPPY to see the FIRST of it's kind, in terms of the IMAGINATION of the graph plotted, and that too without the aid of the computer so appropriately and correctly  and he just gave his order - GET THE FINAL DISERTATION BINDED .
Since I was into the press for a short duration of time, I knew where exactly to move and to get the FOUR copies of the dissertation completely BOUND for it's final presentation.
It was March 21st 1984 when I presented it to the Guide to endorse the same and to put his signature as to pass it on to the Director, Mr Jal. P. Gimi,  for his endorsement which he did it immediately.
I WAS THE FIRST TO SUBMIT MY PROJECT DISSERTATION FROM THAT BATCH WHICH WENT ON TO COMPLETE THEIR  M.B.A STUDIES FOR THE SAME FOR THAT ACADEMIC YEAR.
Virtual DIAMOND JUBILEE-::
Actually the DIAMOND JUBILEE is celebrated once a project or an event completes it's 50th year . However it is observed that many who are a part of the event do not LIVE until 50th of their life after once an event is completed . So a NERW concept of celebrating the VIRTUAL jubilee has crept into the system of celebrating an event and now the GOLDEN Jubilee is celebrated in it's and after completing it's 40th year of celebration.
March 21st 2002, this year saw that happening, as after completing the 39th year, it put it's feet on the FIRST day of the 40th year and the FIRST ever DISSERTATION that I submitted ultimately has been responsible for me to write about another , maybe THIRTY in numbers for the students when I was into teaching beside those FOUR books that I have authored .
" USP " Of My " FIRST " Ever Dissertation Submitted-::
Without taking the help of the COMPUTER, and feeding the inputs to get the OUTPUT from the same, WE COULD CHART OUT AND DRAW THE PICTORIALS WHICH INFACT WAS THE FIRST TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN PLACE IN THE ENTIRE NAGPUR UNIVERSITY  AND MABE AT MAHARASHTRA
The Maharashtra Government took out many a points from this dissertation to chalk out and bring about many a NEW plan in terms of marketing the chilli's in its local market .
Many Mouth's To Me To Drop This One When I Started With The Dissertation-::
When I started first, there were many who advised me to drop the idea of choosing such a LOUSY subject for the dissertation. There were many seniots who had passed out who advised me to take a drop and choose some other subject as a title because they felt that this kind of a old and back laided dissertation would not fetch me a good job, beside any good marks for improvising on my overall percentage of marks.
I REMAINED ADAMANT AND WENT AHEAD WITH THE SAME . TOTAL INCLINATION TO THE JOB, DEDICATION , DEVOTION AND THE IMPLICATION OF IMPLEMENTING NEW IDEAS TO REPRESENT MY STATISTICS WITH THE PICTORIALS COMPLETELY BROUGHT ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE.
I Was Awarded With 80 marks out of 100 for this Dissertation-::  Floats Of Jokes Thereafter  tHEREAFTER
When the final results were declared,  I WAS AWARDED A BOLSTERING AND A STAGGERING 80/100 MARKS FOR THE SAME. None of those who flouted me for choosing this title as a subject for the Dissertation , be it my own classmate , or the Seniors COULD score that many a marks in their own project that they were to submit. That this dissertation would not find any place at all was also there for the one's to see when the State Government of Maharashtra then, picked up a few vital points to bolster and strengthen their marketing effort of the produce in the state.
When I finally met my Academic Director and my guide Prof Mr Jiwaji about the same, my guide just told me that I WANTED TO AWARD 90 MARKS TO YOU FOR THE SAME BUT ENDED GIVING YOU 80.  The reason for which actually I DID NOT award you 90 marks was that you are the class representative of your class for the University beside being the SECOND -IN-LINE as the University Representative from our Department for the University and I wanted to avoid that a kind of a feeling which might make the others to feel that I have succumbed to the fears of the University representative because of any a kind of a political pressure from any corner that might  come to us, or that comes to pass on certain advantages to the University political student entities. That would have created a bad impression he said .
It maybe recalled here that  I WAS A POLITICAL ENTITY AS A STUDENT AS WELL WHILE I WAS IN THE COLLEGE AND HAD EARNED A VERY GOOD NAME IN THAT CIRCLE AS WELL.
Thanks for those 80/100 marks, I replied- IF YOU HAD AWARDED ME 90 THEN PERHAPS MY FATHER WOULD HAVE SUFFERED A HEART STROKE AND WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD.
Why they asked and my reply was-::
"  I HAD FAILED FOR " SIX " CONSECUTIVE TIMES BETWEEN 1978 TO 1981 AS A STUDENT OF B.Sc AND IF MY FATHER SAW THOSE 90 MARKS PERHAPS HE WOULD HAVE  SUFFERED  A HEART STROKE OR MAYBE HE WOULD HAVE COMMITTED SUICIDE- NOT HAVING ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT IT IS HIS REAL SON WHO COULD HAVE DONE IT TO SCORE THAT MUCH " . Thanks for those 80 marks I said.
I finally scored 64 %of marks in toto to clear my M.B.A degree exams in 1984, within TWO years of joining this professional course,  and I was the FIRST in my family  CLAN to have achieved that post graduate degree after failing so miserably in the B.Sc exams.
I later added the DIPLOMA IN EXPORTS MANAGEMENT in 1992 scoring 78% of marks to finally cap my runs of the studies.
The entire story that those failure too is being written here in the blog page.

That is it

Regards and Thanks
