Now comes the entire story and the gist of how did I write
this book.
WHAT MADE ME TO
WRITE THIS BOOK-::
Well, it was the year 1975. India had just won the WORLD CUP
HOCKEY on March 15th 1975. I was based at Pathakhera Coal Mines
where my Father was a Senior Executive Engineer ( E & M ) in that mines.
There was a Doctor, the Colliery Doctor, Mr Gajendragadkar
whose nephew was to undergo the Thread Ceremony, ( Janeo ) as we call it at
Gwalior. He pushed my Father to allow me to go to Gwalior for the same.At last it was decided that I
would be allowed to go to attend the ceremony. That was the FIRST time in my life that I went to Gwalior , and during my stay over there, I was LUCKY to meet and shake hands with Shivaji Pawar, the player who was the member of that Indian World Cup Hockey winning squad.
It was summer at the peak and these area of Madhya Pradesh
are at the highest peak during the summer when it simmers. . The temperature by then was about
42 degree and the scorch was unbearable. We started for Gwalior by the Dakshin
Express . During those days in 1975 there use to be only one train which would
connect the Southern part of India to New Delhi and that train was to cut through
Nagpur, and then , pass by these area of M.P and again would touch Itarsi and Bhopal before it
reached Delhi. Obviously that was the train we started for.
Sitting in an unreserved compartment and fighting the heat
it was unbearable for us to continue further and we decided to break it at
Jhansi . After meeting a relative of the Gajendragadkar at Jhansi we had enough
of time at our disposal so we decided to meet Ashok Kumar at his Jhansi
residence at Sipri Bazar.
We Met Major
Dhyanchand Instead Of Ashok Kumar - ::
We reached House Number 296 at Sipri Bazar at Jhansi and
instead of meeting Ashok Kumar we met Major Dhyanchand . THIS
WAS THE MAN ABOUT WHOM WE HAD HEAD A LOT WHILE DOING OUR STUDIES AT SCHOOL THEN.
We were SHOCKED to see the WIZARD of Hockey cladded in a very
ordinary vest cladded in a Khahi short and taking care of the plants of his garden at that scorching summer at his residence at Jhansi.
When we introduced ourself and asked about Ashok, we were
told that Ashok mostly stays at Delhi then as that was his CAMP-OFFICE for expediting his duties. Finding no other
alternative we decided to LEACH
on to the Major who was the wizard of Indian and WORLD Hockey.
Excitement Was In
The Air While Talking To The Major - ::
enthusiast of sports and having then represented my School
team in as many as SIX different event of sports for the School team, my
excitement was unstoppable though FLABBY.
There were as usual some talks on Hockey and he was softly listening to us and
was answering in the most prudent manner with a lot of meaning attached to the
same.
He could very easily make out that he was amidst two young coot
who did not play Hockey at all by then but were a GREAT Hockey enthusiast. He actually took the TWO BULLS by
their HORNS so far and for all the time that we were with him that day.
I WANT TO WRITE A BOOK ON HOCKEY - ::
Infact till that moment I was possessing some records on
Hockey and a few on Indian hockey. Eagerly and losing my patience amidst all the
excitement I just said him that I
WANT TO WRITE A BOOK ON HOCKEY AND I HAD MANY A RECORDS IN TERMS OF THE
STATISTICS FOR THE SAME
The Mojar and the wizard of WORLD Hockey just looked at me.
Then he asked these few questions one by one. The first was WHAT WAS MY AGE . The second
was WHAT IS THE AGE OF INDIAN HOCKEY.
The last was HOW MANY YEARS OF HOCKEY DID HE IE Mr DHAYNCHAND PLAY FOR INDIA
AND IN INDIA.
I was 16 by then. India and her Hockey were aged 47 years of
age by then and I did not know how many years of Hockey did the Major play in
his entire career.
Hearing to me he said that - :
1). Do you know that I played for 25 years of Hockey for India and THIRTY years in toto, from 1918 to 1948, for the various teams
of India,
2). That He had scored 1248 goals in 1246 matches of Hockey
that he played
3). That he had scored 589 goals in 189 Internationals for
India
He plainly said me that out of the 47 years of Indian Hockey
in terms of its age he had served the Indian Hockey for 25 years. WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW ANY FACTS ABOUT INDIAN
HOCKEY WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO WRITE IN YOUR BOOK. DON’T YOU THINK THAT YOU
WOULD BE MAKING A “ FOOL ” OF YOURSELF.
A PLAIN ADVICE GIVEN TO ME BY THE WIZARD
Hearing to me the Wizard advised me that DO THE RESEARCH OF INDIAN HOCKEY FOR 47
YEARS BEFORE YOU WRITE A BOOK ON HOCKEY.
There are INNUMEROUS SKELETON IN THE CUBBOARD, AND
THERE ARE MANY SKELETONS, UNDER THE CRUST OF THE EARTH OF INDIAN HOCKEY. BETTER
TRY TO FIND OUT BEFORE EMBARKING FOR YOUR YOUR JOURNEY ON THE BOOK OF INDIAN HOCKEY.
Well If I remember that was May 14th 1975 that I
was talking to him. From May 14th 1975 to May 28th 2022
and finally on October 19th 2022, it took me exactly 47 years and a
few days to write this book on Hockey and this by FAR IS THE BEST BOOK ON HOCKEY
AND THE BEST AMONGST THE ENTIRE “ SIX ” THAT I HAVE WRITTEN
The Problems That
I faced While Completing this Book-::
I did not have anybody to support me. All the typing,
editing, subbing and finally selecting the space for affixing the photos is
what I had to do, singlehandedly and without recieving any support from anybody.
The problem initially was that I selected FIFTY
CHAPTERS for the book, based on various facts and incidents that related and those which relates to Indian hockey. . That would have turned the book
to about 1000 pages. From that I had to delete about 17 chapters
to complete the book. That would be around 650 pages which again would be too
large and too voluptuous in terms of the volume to read the book. I finally
rejected eight of those chapters before choosing the final TWENTY THREE for
the book.
The overall herculean job to delete those TWENTY
SEVEN chapters really was like fixing the HEART OF THE GOAT TO THE
DISPLACED HEART OF THE MAN, IN THE BODY OF A MAN , TO MAKE HIM TO SURVIVE. THE HEART TRANSPLANTATION WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN
SO HARD A TASK THAT MY BOOK ON HOCKEY WAS IN TERMS OF DELETING THOSE CHAPTERS ?.
Choosing Those
Photos For The Book - ::
I always had it in mind that THIS BOOK WOULD POSSESS PHOTOS
WHICH WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS THE MOST EVER " EXCLUSIVE " PHOTOS THAT ANY BOOK WOULD
CONTAIN .
There are 73 photos in the book. HOWEVER
THERE ARE FOURTEEN EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS THAT THE BOOK CONTAINS.
For example the
AUTOGRAPH of those ELEVEN players who played in the FINAL XI in that
India-Germany match at Berlin in 1936, the stick by which Ashok Kumar had
scored that victorious goal for India in the 1975 World Cup Hockey Finals, on
March 15th 1975 , the ball by which Balbir Singh Garewal had scored
that goal which fetched India her FIRST GOLD in the Finals of the Hockey for
the GOLD for India’s maiden Asian Games Hockey title, and the maiden Indian Eves Hockey team that participated in the inaugural World Cup, etc to just state about
the photos that the book carries.
Pic - :: The Stick By Which Ashok Kumar Had Scored That Victorious Goal In That World Cup Hockey Triumph For India On March 15th 1975
These are the OSTENTATIOUS photos that the
book carries and there are about 73 of such photos . The photos described above
are the EXCLUSIVE, which are 15 in numbers, and there are about 58 other photos which are worth watching. That
is the PEARL that the book contains.

What Is The Book
That It Carries-::
The book is
DIVIDED into TWO parts.
From the FIRST chapter to about chapter number 17, the book states all about INDIA
AND HER GLORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT IN HOCKEY WITH ALL THE “ MURDEROUS-NEGATIVITY ” SURMOUNTING THE
INDIAN HOCKEY INSPITE OF INDIA WINNING SO MANY OLYMPIC GOLD AT A HEAP.
It tells all about Indian Hockey at the SKY NUMBER NINE and the reasons about WHY
DID IT FALL FROM THAT POSITION TO REACH TO THE END OF THE HELL AND WHO AS WELL
AS WHAT WERE THE FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAME.
EVERY PROOF in terms of the photos that supplements about
what has been written in the book are attached to the chapters and that makes
it SAUCY as well as ITCHY to feel about the same.
The second part is
the “ GRANDEURS ” AS WELL AS THE “ PEERS ” WHO WERE THE AS ONE CALLS THEM, THE “ PEARLS ” IN THE “ OYSTER ” OF INDIAN HOCKEY, and it is all about
them. Yes that is it . The second part from
the chapter number 18 to chapter number 22 describes all
about them .
TWO CHAPTERS THAT DETAILS ALL THE SOLUTION THAT IS NEEDED TO
MAKE WORLD HOCKEY & INDIAN
HOCKEY THE “ BEST ”
There are two chapters that completely diagnoses the ROTS that is going in the world
of Hockey and Indian Hockey and it completely gives a solution as to how could
that be completely VITALISED to
make Hockey the BEST ever
sports in the world. The basics of hockey from A To Z about what are the DISEASES that has engulfed the WORLD HOCKEY and in what manner
that it completely has MURDERED
the Indian Hockey are detailed in CHAPTER
NUMBER 12 and Chapter Number
23 . This is the HALLMARK
and the BLOOD of the book.
Basically Indian Hockey has been all about POLITICS,
REGIONALISM, BIASED ACTIONS , FAVOURITSM , EGO and SUPRESSIONS that has been
very minutely , BRAVELY and MEANINGFULLY asserted with
all description in the book with all proof depicted and this makes the BOOK a
kind of a book which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from any
other book that has been written on Hockey.
ODE TO WOMEN
HOCKEY - ::
One full chapter consisting of TEN pages has been dedicated
and written about the Women’s Hockey
of the 1974-75 team which NOBODY
TALKS ANYTHING ABOUT IT, but which HAD
PUT INDIA ON THE HIGH PEDESTAL OF WORLD HOCKEY.
That very incident and that very story of the eves placing India on such a high pedestal is written and THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK THAT CARRIES A LITTLE ABOUT WOMEN’S HOCKEY IN TERMS OF THEIR ACHIEVEMENT
People might have not heard about Ajinder Kaur, Rekha Mandappan ,
Geeta Sarin, Chanchal Koli, Madam Rupa Bhasin
, but these are the ladies who had sown the seed of Eves Hockey, directed by Mr
Gurcharan Singh Bodhi, as
the Chief Coach for India to achieve and for the eves to PLATFORM the eves
Hockey for and in India. This book describes those glorious moment
in detail and by all the mean showering all the respect for the eves Indian Hockey
HEADACHE:: Well
It Comes But Not To Fire On Them
Well, when you are on a mission, all , with nobody to
assist you, you are walking amidst the FIRE which is there to burn you and
reduce to ASH, and that is
what was happening to me when I was authoring the book. Over it was the HEADACHE to get those photos which
I very badly wanted for my book. Initially it was very hard to get those and I
had literally decided to give away
writing the book.
Luckily I was at Lucknow for the K.D.Singh Babu Hockey
Centenary and I could manage to get the FOREWORDS from Ashok Kumar Dhyanchand,
and that gave me the mental strength to travel to Inam-Ur-Rehman, based at Bhopal , to get the
PREFACE for the book from him..That actually set the ball rolling.
DISEASE THAT
COMPLETELY UPROOTED ME-::
While authoring
the book, I was caught by a MYSTERIOUS URINAL INFECTION. That was HORRIBLE. Every TWO minutes I had to run to the toilet
to release the urine and that INFECTED and completely broke my health. The concentration and its level got absolutely destructed and grinded to dust. The pain was unbearble. Amidst
the disease I had to complete the task as the dead line too was nearing its
end.
I was completely out of BREATH and out of the control that I
always maintain for my body. This disease shattered me. Again there was a trip
to Bali, Indonesoia which I had to take with the family. I was catastrophe and
completely destructed about what to do. Ultimately my FAITH in the SPIRITUALISM
, and my FAITH on the ALMIGHTY proved everything wrong and I could pursue my
task though with a lot of difficulties and uncertainty.
The publisher end too was havoc. It always brought in those
kind of a situation where the elephant would pass through but its tail would be
trapped and the elephant would get struck. Mentally there were many a times
were I felt to give it away but my wife would always egged in to complete the
task.
The Cover Designed
By Me But Executed To Finality By My Wife-::
Based on the depiction and the drawing that I gave it to the
publisher he or they came out with a cover for which I had to pay extra in
terms of Rs 1,000=00.This was OUTRIGHTLY rejected by my wife. We later, infact
she moved to a graphic designer whose charge was Rs 500=00 but who actually
came out with the cover that is there in/on the book. The TRI-COLOUR depicts the cover and its importance to Indian Hockey. When I showed it to
Inam-Ur-Rehman and Ashok Kumar they were so thrilled. That made me to finally
choose the cover and give my nod for the same.
There were so many a hiccups and many such MIND BLASTING moments fill with
tremendous anger that always crept in, due to adversaries caused by the publisher, but I had to finally gulp those poisonous anger and had to move
forward to complete the project.
This publisher is a SNAKE which bites and STABS from the back.I have had many moments of head hitting the wall against him, but as I was FOXED so cleverly by him, I went ahead with the project. I will get him back to teach him some lessons whenever I find an appropriate time.
THIS PUBLISHER, CLEVER FOX , CHENNAI, IS A WOLF UNDER THE BARK OF A SHEEP.Those who wish to get in touch with him for publication of their books, they may KINDLY note my advise- DO NOT BELIEVE IN THIS SNAKE, A TWO-MOUTHED - ONE
This is the reason that with effect from January 19th 2024 , I have changed my publisher to book the order and expedite the book to BOOKSCLINIC, BILASPUR, CHATTISGARH.
STILL - I WOULD LIKE TO " THANK " THE PUBLISHER FOR BRINGING OUT THIS BOOK.
Finally when the book was released on the eve of DHANTERAS I
was relieved by all the mean. I felt like the BLESSING OF THE ALMIGHTY FINALLY HAS ARRIVED TO BE WITH ME FOR THE
FUTURE.
Forty Seven ( 47 )
Years It Took Me To Finally Complete The Book-::
It took me 47
years in all to complete the book.Collecting those photos from various sources,
from the friends and from the agencies took me about 28 years. Ashok Kumar to
some extent and Aslam Sher Khan too proved the HANDY. The " inputs " of Inam-Ur-Rehman and Balbir Singh garewal really were the OXYGEN for me to feel about to complete the book and fill it with meaningful informations.
Also the words of Mr Narendra Modi in his MANN
KI BAAT where he had urged
upon the Indians to come up with something DIFFERENT
and SPECTACULAR in this AZADI KE AMRIT VARSH made me
walk that hard but those extra mile. It was like trampling by the death , that
the death could do it to me that I felt but at last I HAD THE LAST LAUGH
All is well that ends well and that did hold true for me.
Well the BOOK is available at Amazon and at Flipkart. It is
priced at Rs 700=00 per copy. If you wish to place the order for less than NINE
book than these two agencies Flipkart, and Amazon are the answer.
If you wish to have more than TEN ( 10 ) , then fall back to
the publisher BOOKSCLININC PUBLISHING NEAR PANCHMUKHI HANUMAN MANDIR MANGLA ROAD KUDUDAND BILASPUR, CHATTISGARH whose address is depicted on the
Google and they have THEIR offices running at BILASPUR, CHATTISGARH . You can fall
onto him to buy the book and If you really read the book- YOU WOULD GET THE PEARLS THAT
ARE THERE IN THE OYSTER. For that is how you would feel like after you finish reading the book
Regards and Thanks
