The " K.D.Singh Babu " Centenary And The Society That Runs Hockey - An " EDIFICE " Of Hockey In Making - Hail " SUJIT " Hail " SYED " , Rule The Wave
The K. D . Singh
Babu Centenary Hockey Fiesta:: Buck Up “
Sujit ” , Buck Up “ Syed ”
An extremely colorful personality, an element on whose vein
ran the “ BLUE-BLOOD ” , a person whose HEART was magnanimous
when it boiled down to offer the lateral aid to the humans for pulling them out
of the wood, but a character who was adamant when it came to adamancy, and he
was none other than K.D.Singh Babu.
Born at Barabanki, into a ROYAL family on April 4th,
1922, he actually was moulded into being a CHAMPION
OF PRINCE and this habit and the attitude remained with him till he
breathed his last. This proved to be his FORTE of winning all the championship
in his life but that ONE adamancy, that he could not put it away for, in 1972
when he was the coach of the Indian Hockey Olympic team, saw him the GOLD
elapsing from his grip, else HE WON EVERYTHING THAT THE LIFE COULD
GIVE IT TO ANYBODY, though not to forget the fact that he won TWO
Olympics GOLD for India in 1948, as a
Vice-Captain and 1952 in Hockey, as the Captain of the Indian Hockey Olympic
team.
The ICING on the cake if it was , it was that he was ADJUDICATED
AS THE BEST OLYMPIAN OF THE 1952 HELSINKI OLYMPICS and he rightly
won the HELMS AWARD for being that. That was his GREATNESS
.
The K.D.Singh Babu Hockey Tourney-:: From The “ DIVINE” To The “ ANGELS ”
Obviously, in India if you have to take the names of TWO
great luminaries of Hockey, the FIRST
that comes to the lips is the name of Major Dhyanchand, and once you finish it with him the next
comes the name of K.D.Singh Babu
. No doubt that these two have been cemented in the annals of Indian Hockey by
naming the Trophy in their name in the form of the competitive tournaments that
are held and played in this country, and the K.D.Singh Babu tournament was a
major event of the Hockey calendar, that use to be held at Lucknow, and it is
even held now
Change In The “
DIAPHRAM” and the “ PARADIGM ” :: From
The “ HORSES” To The “ COLTS ”
So, one might ask,
what is so GREAT about writing this piece, if as a natural event of Hockey calendar,
this tourney is held every year at Lucknow.
The answer is THIS TOURNEY WAS EARLIER MADE TO COMPETE
WITH THE BEST OF THE MOULDED HORSES OF HOCKEY BUT NOW IT HAS BECOME THE
GROOMING PALACE FOR THE “ COLTS ” TO GET THEMSELVES MOULDED INTO
THE BEST OF THE HOCKEY HORSES AND THIS IS BEING DONE BY THE K.D.SINGH BABU HOCKEY SOCIETY, BY THE
HELP OF SUJIT KUMAR AND SYED ALI, BOTH EX-OLYMPIANS
K.D Singh Babu, in his lifetime would go out of the way to
help the one’s from the utmost backward strata of the society. Keeping that in
mind, the K.D.Singh Babu Hockey Society, that now runs this tourney with Sujit
Kumar and Syed Ali being their HEADS, transhifted this one, with the aim to
bring in the most NEGLECTED colts from the most underprivileged society of the
entire state of uttar Pradesh, and provide them the aids to take up Hockey as a
Sports and as a career , to built themselves into a champions of Hockey for
themselves for their future. In that attempt they are helping India with a rich
inflow of Hockey talent.
This year this tournament saw the CENTENARY of the great and
illustrious K.D.Singh Babu, and as it is it was held at Lucknow with gay and
gaiety. What we saw was that EIGHT teams from various part of the country, with
those who participated in this tournament were aged between twelve years to
fifteen years took part in the event. There were the teams from Orissa, two
from Haryana, and there were a few from Uttar Pradesh and even from Maharashtra
taking part and laying in this tournament. In the finals the Colts from Haryana
defeated the Colts from the Uttar Pradesh after the full game had ended in a 2-2 draw,
to claim this trophy in it’s centenary year.
To make this occasion memorable, there were some Ex-Internationals who were called upon to grace and make this event a memorable one and there were Ashok Kumar Dhyanchand, Aslam Sher Khan, Mehboob Khan, M.P.Singh, Pramod Batlaw, Romeo James, and a few of them who played Hockey for India.
This tournament that I could see, simply now focusses on the coots especially from the underprivileged section of the society especially when it boils down to Uttar Pradesh, to train them and mould them into being a fluent Hockey players, and the one’s who are doing it are Sujit Kumar Shrivastav, an Olympian along with Syed Ali who also is an Olympian. The moot aim is to bring up the players from the most underprivileged society and make them a different kind of a human being through hockey who would themselves make them great, both as a human being and as a Hockey player.
In what that could be be ascribed as a wonderful gesture, in
the finals of the day on April 4th 2022, inspite of there being a
heinous murder that took place within the temple, ie, the Gorakhnath temple and
which aroused so many a furore in the state, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr
Yogi Adityanath, preponed the timings of ther same to be the CHIEF GUEST and to
share the honours to them who definitely were the ones who ought to be have
honoured.
Silver salvers were given to the Internationals who were
invited as the PRIMA-DONNA and the others who were invited as the SPECIAL GUEST
were also awarded and presented the salvers. That was the HALLMARK of the
tourney as they accorded the RICHEST honour that the society could offer that
runs this tourney now.
It was so commendable on the part of the K.D.Singh Babu
Society to have invited some of the leading Government luminaries that are
engaged in serving the Central Government to be a part of this tourney in it’s
centenary year.
The facilities to those who were invited for this event ,
offered, too was really commendable. Every invited guest were accommodated in
the Hotel SURYOTEL that is situated in the Joapling Road at Lucknow, and the
palates offered were really too good.
It really was to the ever great contribution of Sujit Kumar
and Syed Ali, especially Sujit Kumar who took all the pain to see that everything
was in perfect order and the team that
he had did it with perfection. That spoke a lot and GREAT about the manner in
which the tournament was held. Everything fell into the place at the
appropriate end when the things were moved in that order. That was a lesson in
objectivity and something to learn it and appreciate as well.
In all this event and the society is doing a GREAT job by
turning the underprivileged ones into something good in their life and for it
Mr Sanjay, Mr Sujit Kumar and Mr Syed Ali ought to be accorded the STATE HONOUR
at least now, and that is a must.
That is it
Regards and Thanks
