When Haroon  Rahim Of Pakistan Fled From The Court Against India In The Davis Cup Match  In 1968 ::

This refers  to the JOKE that the former Pakistani cricketers did when India lost to England in the recently concluded T-20 semis at Melbourne, Australia, when India were defeated by 10 wickets in the semis.

It was shown in the Indian TV by Mr Sudhir Choudhury, that  Waquar Younus along with Wasim Akram about how Mr Vajapayee who shook hand with Shahid Afridi, went to a state of “ HOCK ” after that incident. The other Pakistani cricketers – SHAMELESS that they were during their playing days, were making a “ MOCK ”  of the same after Waquar Younus described the act of Mr Vajapayeee and Shaid Afridi.

It retrospect and in return to that mock that they did on the TV, I would cite TWO incident about their YOUTH and YOUNG player ofcourse in a different event of a different sports, when they were shown the real strength that the INDIAN BONE possesses

Davis Cup , Lucknow, India Versus Pakistan, 1968 :: Astonished World Saw The “ CRACK-Of-A- JOKE ”

It was the year 1968. Pakistan were to play India at Lucknow in the Eastern Zone Davis Cup in the second round. Pakistan had come to India by beating  Ceylon then, Now Sri-Lanka by 5-0 and India had taken a good measure of Malaysia by the same score. Hence the second round gained importance as the winner of the tie would then, have and had to play Japan in the Zonal Semi-Finals .

The Indian team was represented by Premjit Lall, who then was the national champion of India, Jaideep Mukherjea, Vijay Amritraj, Shashi Menon, and Anand Amritraj. Vijay Amritraj was the baby of the team then , as he was only FOURTEEN ( 14 ) years of age then    .

The Pakistan Squad

The Pakistan squad had a player by the name of HAROON RAHIM. He was a STAR during those period, not only for Pakistan but for the world of Tennis then. A Wimbledon Runners-Up in the junior event of the Wimbledon during his playing days, he on two different occasion in the successive year was the Wimbledon Junior Runners-up . He achieved his BEST ATP WORLD RANKING of the 38th position,  Well he came to Idia with a tag of bering the QUARTER-FINALIST of the Wimbledon in 1968 and obviously for this tie  for evertything hinged on him for Pakistan.

The Match :: India Versus Pakistan, Davis Cup Tie, 1968

Pakistan had brought a squad for 1968 for the Davis Cup which was well experienced in Tennis with Haroon Rahim doing the corners. In retrospect India had THEE players whose summation of the age were Anand Amritraj ( 15 years ), Shashi Menon ( 16 years ) and ofcourse Vijay Amritraj ( 14 years ) then, the summation of their age was 45 years , on an average it was 15years. Haroon Rahim was by then 28 years of age.

Obviously it was expected that Pakistan would steam roll India in that case with their hopes pinned on Haroon Rahim who was expected to blow away both the Indian master, Premjit Lall and Jaideep Mukherjea.

It happened the same manner. After Premjit Lall gave India a flying start by putting India by 1-0, up, Haroon Rahim defeated Jaideep Mukherjea to restore the parity. It became 1-1 at the end of the first day.

On the second day it was that  WHO SO EVER WINS THE DOUBLES TIE WOULD WRAP UP THE TIE BY THE END OF THE THIRD DAY.

The Pakistani as expected did not change their doubles pair to take India for the match, but the FOXY head of Ramanathan Krishnan who was the NON-PLAYING-CAPTAIN of India for the tie, brought in a YOUNG pair of leg in Shashi Menon to partner Premjit lall in the double and this completely CHOKED the Pakistani .

The FRAGNANCE of the experience of Premjit Lall and the EXUBERANCE of the youth of  Shashi  Menon proved too much for the Pakistani . They started with a bang by claiming the first  set of the tie in the doubles, but it was the BULL of Shashi Menon and the dynamic of Premjit Lall, which from the second set to the finish, as this tie was over in four sets, pommelled Pakistan in such ma manner that India went up by 2-1 at the end of the doubles.

In the reverse single that followed the next day, Jaideep Mukherjea made the amends of his failure of the first day when he swapped and mopped  the Pakistani in straight set in his game against their player to make the things easy for India to win the tie. India went up by 3-1 and had won the rubber against them to earn the right to meet and play Japan.

The last rubber or the tie was inconsequential for India as it had wrapped the rubber by then. India fielded Vijay Amritraj who was by the a QUARTER-FINALIST in the Junior Wimbledon of 1968.

Pakistan were expecting Premjit Lall to take on Haroon Rahim , but after looking into the state of the affair, the Pakistani Journalist, who had come here to cover the event exactly four of them made a JOKE of everybody stating that  IT WAS AN INSULT TO HAROON RAHIM TO BE PITCHED AGAINST A 14 YEARS OF OLD LAD IN VIJAY AMRITRAJ.

Even before the game could start, some of those journalist approached the Pakistani team Manager to take away themselves from playing this tie, as they felt that IT WAS A BELANT INSULT THAT INDIA WAS PROVIDING THE NATION OF PAKISTAN BY FIELDING A FOURTEEN YEARS OF AGE AS A PLAYER AGAINST A MUCH STRONGER, FITTER AND ELEGANT PLAYER AND THAT TOO AS  AND OF A CALIBER OF RAHOON RAHIM.

Even before the match could end, one of their journalist then covering the match for Press Trust Of  Pakistan, had finished writing that Haroon Rahim had KILLED that 14 years of the boy who was to play him in the last rubber in this match by his BULLDOZING act and play. .

This news of an Indian being killed in a Davis Cup match on the court completely razed the entire country. The entire Sports freaks of Pakistan believed it and took it to be correct and many started distributing SWEETS over there for an Indian being killed by the Pakistani , and that too on the Tennis Court. Some started saying that INDIA IS SUCH. THEY ARE BOUND TO BE KILLED BY PAKISTAN.  The 1965 war and it’s defeat, which was THREE years old by then,  was the reason for those people to do that. The entire nation of Pakistan was not really over the brutal that the Indian Army had done to them in 1965 and hence these kind of reactions from Pakistan was evitable and understandable.

The Haroon Rahim- Vijay Amritraj match ::

Infact Hahoon Rahim internally in his HEART was very offended when the Indian think-tank fielded Vijay Amritraj for the tie against him . However he had to complete the Davis Cup formalities to play the last singles of the tie. Pakistan could have also changed their player but it was such that a defeat of 1-4 would be so disaster to see and feel as and if compared to 2-3 which looks satisfying.

With that intent they fielded Haroon Rahim. Haroon Rahim BLEW away Vijay Amritraj in the first set winning it 6-1.  No sooner that it happened, again the PTI of Pakistan covering this match filed another kind of a report that was unbearable for India to digest it. Vijay by then had read Haroon Rahim, for moves and for all the stroke that he possessed.

In the second set Rahim, took an unpassable  and unassailable lead of 5-2. It was here again that Vijay came into the foreplay with his so attractive wrist doing all the job for him to get back into the saddle. He won this set at 11-9 .

He won the next at 6-2 and broke Rahim in the fourth to take a non-believing lead with the score reading 3-1 to Vijay in the fourth.

At this point Haroon Rahim just was LOST. He was finding it hard to decide about which way to go and what to offer. He chose the path of th TOILET to go. He asked the match referee to allow him to go to the urinal, which the referee allowed him to do stating that he has to come back into the court within FIVE minutes.

Pic :: A Picture Of Controlling The " PISS "

Went Haroon Rahim to the toilet to CHANGE his gear. From there he came out with his KITS to catch hold of a car. From there to the HOTEL and checking him out of the hotel, he darted to the AIRPORT. From there where did he go , till NOBODY knows that.

This is what the Pakistani media still reports about Haroon Rahim that his whwereabouts still are not known. However I would like to bring it to the notice of one and sundry that in 1973 when Vijay Amritraj won that First ever Indian Grand Prix Tennis in 1973, defeating Mal Anderson of Australia by 6-3,4-6, 6-7, 6-4, and 11-9, Haroon Rahim had come to India to play in that event and he had lost to   Mike Estep, of U.S.A  of U.S.A in the quarters . It is so silly that the pakistani medioa does not knows his whereabouts.  Anyway back to that Lucknow match.

The match referee and the the Indians were waiting and kept on waiting till it became dark.  WHERE WAS HAROON RAHIM- NOBODY AT LUCKNOW COULD ANSWER.

The tie was called off and India were declared the WINNER by 3-1 against Pakistan

The QUESTION is WHAT WAS THE AGE IN 1968 OF WASIM AKRAM, WAQUAR YOUNUS, SHOAIB MALLIK AND SHOAIB AKHTAR, in 1968. WELL I WAS NINE ( 09 ) YEARS OF AGE, I WAS IN CLASS FOURTH ( 04 ) AND HAD PASSED MY FINAL EXAMS IN THAT YEAR SCORING 88% OF MARKS SECURING A FIRST POSITION .I had READ all about this Davis Cup tie in the TIMES OF INDIA and also in the ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY OF INDIA

Pic - :: A " FOURTEEN" Years Of Age, A " HINDU" , And An Indian Ved Prakash "PROUDLY " Displaying His " GOLD - MEDAL "  After Winning It In The 1970 CWG Games In Wrestling

At what age did these FOUR Pakistani cricketers had STARTED reading and UNDERSTANDING English .

That MARKS the DIFFERENCE between a MUSLIM GUY who hails from Pakistan and an  HINDU Indian Lad who grows up in India .PAKISTAN CAN NEVER BE EQUAL TO INDIA FOR ANYTHING AND THEY CANNOT COME ANYWHERE NEAR TO INDIA IN 100 DIFFERENT AGES AS WELL.

INCIDENT NUMBER TWO - :: Ved Prakash , 14 Years Of Age “ SWIRLS AND ROLLS ”  A Pakistani Wrestler

Do you THINK that I should be writing more . I can and I can EXPLAIN all about the same when an FOURTEEN ( 14 ) years  of age, an Indian wrestler by the name of VED PRAKASH from the GURU HANUMAN AKHADA took on a Pakistani wrestler, 28 years of age,  in the SEMIS of the Commonwealth Championship at Edinborough Commonwealth games in 1970.

Pic - :: Ved Prakash, 14 Years Of Age,  " SWIRLING" The Pakistani Wrestler In The Air

The PICTURE describes it all .  I FEEL ASHAMED TO WRITE AND EXPLAIN. Feeling " PITY " on that wrestler, who ever it might have been, being a HUMAN BEING, I DO NOT WANT TO INSULT THAT PAKISTANI WRESTLER who is depicted here in this picture.

IT IS SAID THAT- ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER AND MORE CLEAR THAN THE WORDS. THE ACTION DEPICTED IN THE PICTURE TELLS IT ALL.

Here is the picture.

Well- Ved Prakash went on to win a GOLD in that 49 Kilograms event of wrestling at that  Commonwealth Games to become the  YOUNGEST EVER WRESTLER  AT THE AGE OF " 14 "TO WIN THAT GOLD IN ANY INTERNATIONAL EVENT FOR HIS COUNTRY IN THE ANNALS OF WORLD WRESTLING.

What matters is the manner in which you BREAK your opponent and win the HONOUR for your country rather than making a JOKE of a SEVENTY FOUR YEARS of age of a human being who is OLD to withstand the physical pressure at that age. Obviously when a NINETEEN YEARS of aged, a COOT presses his hand, he would feel the intensity which could be unbearable. That needs to be understood.

PAKISTAN AS A NATION IS A GREAT  “ JOKE ”

That is it

Regards and Thanks
